What I think is funny, is that as soon as someone says they don't like a particular musician, someone else calls them jealous. Come on children, we're not 8 year olds. Aren't we allowed to express opinions anymore?
it's funny how that works. And if you say that you never liked Metallica, then people who apparently know better just KNOW that you used to be a huge Metallica fan, but have jumped on the Tallica-bashing bandwagon.
everyone knows his vibrato sucks, has no tone blah blah blah, it's been said bazillion fucking times, my point was fuck you cocksmokers who are saying shitty things towards him as a person without any reason
Ah right, so it's alright for YOU to say his vibrato sucks and he has no tone, but if anyone else says anything at all about him they're a "cocksmoker".

Didn't EVERYONE who used to be a huge Metallica fan (like me) jump on the Tallica-bashing bandwagon once "St Anger" came out and we all realised it REALLY HAD finished for good in 1988?

mostly, yea. But try convincing anyone that you were NEVER a Metallica fan. I never really got into the band, but some people can't accept that not everyone absolutely loved Metallica. Check out the post earlier in the thread that said something like "try telling me you don't still sing along when they come on the radio...."
wow , its amazing what kirk hammet can bring out in people!! maybe, just maybe, whilst we all descend into chaos and beating the crap outta each other...he'll TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!
hammet is clearly a guitarist who divides opinion. that is all.
i think he sucks, putting it politely, many others do too, some think he's great...we'll never see eye to eye on that, but i think as rsmacker points out, and alot of people would agree, nothing else matters is the best metallica solo by a long shot. which says it all about hammet that most people think the best solo was done by the rythm dude....thats not saying he's crap, but it does suggest he's not a brilliant memorable soloist....can anyone actualy sing or hum a hammet solo?? nope i doubt it. and thats wha puts him way down my list...

i think more people would argue it finished with the tourbus crash
I happen to like Kirk's playing; I even have a [small] poster of him on my wall. Sure there are tons of better guitar players out there, but none of them are Kirk, and metallica wouldn't be the same band without him.
I never thought a discussion about a video of Kirk having a bad day in the studio would end up being 5 pages long

I do know one thing, that once upon-a-time, about 20 years ago now, I had a live bootleg tape of Exodus with Kirk Hammett. As far I can remember there was nothing that later surfaced on any Exodus LP, but there was a song called "Die By My Hand".
Here you go:
Exodus - 1983 Rehearsal - Die By His Hand
I knew Paul and one of my last bands was in negotiations with him to manage our band. I knew the girl responsible for Paul's death. I was BSing with him upstairs at Slims a few days before he passed.
Actually, I have quite a bit of Exodus with Kirk Hamster... this is my Exodus collection:
Didn't James do the MOP solo? I can't remember off the top of my head how many solos there are in that song, or which one you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure James did at least one solo in that song.
But yeah, the first thing I thought of in regards to a hummable Kirk solo was "Fade To Black", that's a melodic solo, just superb.

The harmony solo part in MOP was James and Kirk. Kirk did the main solo.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
Half of you guys need to learn one important detail... Technically perfect guitar solos do not equal good songs. Listen to any Impelliteri, Batio, or Rusty Cooley album for proof. Who cares if Kirk isn't the greatest guitar player... he has been a large part of one of the most successful metal bands in history. I didn't like Load, Reload, or St. Anger, but I like most of everything else.
Writing songs is a difficult thing, as is composing your OWN original guitar solos for those songs. Not to mention creating something milions can relate to. Hats off to the Hamster, he's okay in my book.
