  • Early Christmas?

We're strongly considering just doing Christmas tomorrow.
I have to work Monday, and having one day off to do it
on Tuesday just doesn't seem right. Thoughts?

Good suggestion there. Why not do both!

Lots of people I know are having xmas tonight here, then going "home" for xmas day.

That's because few if any people have any roots in texas. Neighborhood has been clearing out back to california all day.

I'd say as long as there aren't little ones involved, do it today or tomorrow.

I have to work on Monday and only have Tuesday off. We let the kid open some presents on Christmas Eve, but go all out Christmas morning. Then we head over to the mother in laws house Christmas day for some good food and guitar playing. Luckily, my wife is a teacher, so we don't have two conflicting schedules to worry about.

The weekend before Christmas we go to my fathers house, and the weekend after we go to my mothers house. That seems to work best for my schedule, and keeps us from running ragged Christmas Eve and Day. A lot of it depends on if you have kids. If you do, then I would play out Christmas day. If you don't, then it probably won't matter too much either way.

I understand your feelings. It's the one time of year when we should be able to slow down and enjoy the time with family, but society keeps shrinking it down to just another one day holiday.

My boys are 13, and 15. They are all for it, having it on Sunday.
I don't even have to ask them...
We'll do the Christmas Mass, for sure, and I always have to watch "It's a Wonderful Life, and "Christmas Story"...and I do the Mass not because I'm Catholic,(Edit: I'm not, I'm Protestant) I just enjoy it.

I don't think it really matters that much what day you do it, as long as you're with people you care about. Of course I understand with you being a Catholic that you probably feel very guilty for not doing it on the "proper" day.

I feel bad for you guys that have to work holidays. I guess it's one of the few advantages of being a corporate monkey - I generally don't work holidays or weekends. I put my 60 hours in M-F.

Oh, I'm not a Catholic at all, just kind of a fan of History. You got me, I watch it on TV.

Speaking of corporate entities, we used to have a couple of days for Christmas, but now we're full steam ahead (what recession)?, and we will get time off later. We will shut down the mill for Christmas day, only.

Yeah, now the dog is in on it, also...
Normally she ignores the presents under the tree
until the Big Day, but today I'm watching football and she's
sniffing everywhere, and giving me puppy-eye looks. "Please?"...

                            Too late!

Doggy went first...she dragged out what she thought was her present
and commenced to unwrapping while sweet wife giggled. It was a gag.

It was a brand new pack of my boxers, that I had bought and hadn't opened yet. But she wrapped them and put the dog's "present" on top of them in the closet for the last month. So the dog could smell her favorite hedgehog, but couldn't seem to find it in the pack of underwear...Mental abuse on the pup is always fun. She actually got the hedgehog next and ripped the wrapping off and was the happiest 6 year old pup on the planet.

The boys were easy. Wireless headphones, and battery charger & batteries for all the doodads. That's all they wanted. Gave SW a watch, a scanner /printer and stuff from her list. I got a Budweiser Brewmaster Dopplebock with tall glasses, a Colibri lighter, and stuff from my list...

Mom in Law suddenly found herself with us for all of this. I went to Charlotte, NC to get her on a flight to Rochester, NY, but it was getting way too screwed up. So I got a refund on the tickets and brought her back to be with us, instead. She's cool, all is good.

                            Merry Christmas, Y'all!
