  • Lee Aaron - any fans?

I still can't believe that Lee Aaron never made it bigger. As far as female metal, IMHO she outclassed Lita, Doro, and anyone else. She's a much better singer, and mighty fine looking too.

John Albani was a pretty damn good guitar player too.

She was a great singer! Metal Queen was a monster record from start to finish.

            Hmmm. Never heard of her.

The lyrics kind of stink. It's comparable to R Kelly: too literal, lacking in lyrical poetry. A lot of the music is pretty good, I will concede you that. And yeah, she's hot.

I can't believe it either..I think it had something to do with cross border record deals back then...we opened for her a couple times in Calgary..killer band with her and great voice....oh and yeah not too hard on the eyes!

I had never heard of her. Thanks for the links. Here is another female singer from the day.

She's all right, but no way she outclassed Lita or Doro. She has a good voice and she is SEMI-good-lookin' but the songs are sub-par and the lyrics are hokey. First song is an old-time rock and roll groove just punched up, second one is her trying to be Dio Girl.

She got about as big as she deserved. She got enough push from Kerrang and such, all the sexpot posters she did. Which I never found that sexy back in the day; Lita's way hotter and Doro's music was way better AND she was hotter too.

Of course it's all a matter of taste and so it's subjective, but she got enough exposure that she had the opportunity to get big, it just didn't happen because not that many people liked her.

Actually, her distribution and promotion in the US was almost non-existent. Her record company (Attic Canada) was trying to start up a US division, and was holding the rights to her US distribution until it got up on it's feet. In the meantime, they received several offers from some major labels, that were turned down because of their single-mindedness. Unfortunately, she had no control over this because she had signed away her rights to US distribution thanks to bad advice from her management. In the end, Attic USA, never came to anything. There is no doubt in my mind that she would have gotten much bigger in the US, had she been handled properly, and actually had some US promotion.

As for Lita and Doro, Lita had maybe 1 decent song, that was written by Lemmy. All the rest of her music was basically shit. Yeah, she was pretty hot. Doro on the other hand had a handful of decent songs, but was never hot. I'd give her "okay looking" on a good day, but generally she looked kinda nasty.

I'm sure they submitted their videos to MTV, but they either didn't get played or didn't get good response if they did. Other Canadian bands managed to get cross-border appeal. I only watched "Sex With Love" and "Metal Queen" and other than the fact she has a good voice, I would call the songs themselves 3rd-rate at best. No offense, that's just my honest opinion. I don't hear or see hits.

Lita actually had a few good songs, not great but better than what I just saw and heard. Her looks did carry her to a degree though. Doro had quite a few killer songs with Warlock, especially the first 3 albums, that sounded fresh and strong. Her voice was extraordinary in that she didn't try to sing like a girl on the hard stuff, but she could on the softer songs. And, to me, Doro is much better looking than Lee Aaron, sorry. And doro managed to surmount bad management too, at least enough to still be putting out records with US distribution today.

Hasn't Lee Aaron become a jazz singer or something now?

Yeah..she was alright. A little too "pop" for my liking. Doro had more of a powerful metal vibe. She got lame with her solo stuff with the little success she did have. The early Warlock stuff had all the right ingredients for traditional Judas Preist/Accept-ish metal..

Zeegs, check this girl out. Jeff Pilson produced Benedictum's "Uncreation"..they do cool cover of Heaven and Hell..

I put the word out..when I dicovered them about a year ago.. I prefer more aggressive singers..http://youtube.com/watch?v=-LOHKMna-Hc

                            Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
