Flotsam & Jetsam is popping up all of the sudden around here.
I heard a lot about them when I lived in Phoenix, but never saw
    them.

Alright, I pimp this band a lot - but I'm going with Dramarama Box Office Bomb - this album is unbelievable...go check it out on iTunes. Steve and Edie, New Dream, It's Still Warm, Modesty Personified, Spare Change, etc. All great songs, I would call them the bridge between Cheap Trick and the Foo Fighters (as far as hard pop/rock, punky attitudes, and witty lyrics), except Dramarama is much better.

MOONSORROW - VIIDES LUKU - HÄVITETTY

        1. Jäästä syntynyt / Varjojen virta
        Music: Henri Sorvali, Marko Tarvonen
        Lyrics: Ville Sorvali

        2. Tuleen ajettu maa
        Music: Henri Sorvali, Marko Tarvonen
        Lyrics: Ville Sorvali, Thomas Väänänen

        Total playing time 56 minutes

This album is the definition of Epic. Finnish Folk-Metal to take you far away and stir your blood. This band has always written long songs, but this takes the cake. 2 songs clocking in at 56 minutes, but get this - none of it drags on! This record is full of beautiful soundscapes, crushing riffs, even some blast beats and a bit of Humppa! I highly recommend this band to anyone who enjoys relaxing to well composed and played epic Folk-Metal.

Awe hell, you guys mentioned the killer dwarfs, savatage, and Flotsam and Jetsam?

The only two things left to take me back to San Antonio and the "godfather - Joe Anthony" (RIP) are Malice - Air Attack! and Lizzy Borden. God I missed trying to pickup that show with tinfoil and crap on my radio antenna in my bedroom. I could only get that station after 10pm.

I can't find anything bad by Armored Saint myself - especially "can u deliver" off of "March of the Saint". If anyone missed that release, go get it!

My friends band is about to release their album. A couple of really good tunes on it, though it's not shred/technical, death, thrash or even really hard.

I think it has a sort of "Heavy Alternative" sound to it. There's some catchy stuff in there, though probably not a lot of people's cup of tea.

On the third song, you can tell their covering "victim of changes" has influenced them.

They are "The Killer Crocs of Uganda"

I've been spinning Anarion - Unbroken in the car a lot lately. Good songs, good playing, a strong release from a good band. I can't find a weak spot on it. They remind me a little of Prototype.

The album with the second-biggest impact on me in my time of (actively) listening to music.

Hailing from Leipzig, Germany, this band plays progressive metal with clean vocals (at least on this album, their second effort).
They create very atmospheric and thought-inspiring soundscapes... what makes them unique is their use of odd rhythms, and making them sound fluid and fitting in the songs. It's like you don't really notice at first that they use them, but it sounds fresh and new somehow.

New album is due to be out in 2008, there's a teaser up on their myspace now:

Those who liked Evile might like Skeletonwitch - Beyond the Permafrost . A lot of old school thrash vibe is in there, although there are also some (just a bit) black metal influences (rasp vocals in places mostly). A lot of riffs on this cd to digest most of them pretty cool. Rhythm section is good, tight guitars and very good drummer. Also songs are short which keeps it fresh.

Sword - Metalized is an underrated band and cd from the 80's. Priest vein.

                        Dawn- Slaughtersun

Probably the best Swedish black metal album ever written. Very melancholy, very difficult to find.

A few I liked after a few listens like the first Korn album and Early Megadeth.
I think you misunderstood. I wanted you to post an album that you think has all great music and no shitty filler. It doesn't matter if you liked it the first time you heard it.

                              Another amazing awesome album is

Dead Silent Slumber - Into the midnight hour by members of Naglfar.

                                Thanks!

It might get the "wuss" vote for a lot of poeple, and I love a lot of heavy myself...but I can go through this one whether I'm 9 years old, or 90.

                                There's something there for everything.

I'm working on some of these suggestions, also.
I call it "Desert Island Discs"...but a great thread!
