that's a fucking great album, it rocks from start to finish.
you're right I bet people here don't really know this one.

plus Dave Grohl plays drums on it, making it that much better.

Ok, the original question was about what album you can listen too over and over. I might get laughed out of here for this one, but it's true..
        Bob Seger- Nine Tonight
A KILLER live album. Never gets dull.

Glenn Danzig - Black Aria I & II

Both are some excellent instrument albums, and the song writing is brilliant. Plus, its all mainly orchestral, so its pretty out in left field for Danzig, but sounds amazing

I've been 're-discovering' a lot of stuff in my CD collection lately. Here's the one I've been listening to in the car for the past few days:

Avantasia - The Metal Opera Part 2

The first track 'The Seven Angels' is 14 minutes and kicks major ass. Here's part of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5AadrY9enc

The heaviest track is called 'Final Sacrifice' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6cZJCTYMIQ

One of the ballads 'Anywhere' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl6erAMubyE

It might get the "wuss" vote for a lot of poeple, and I love a lot of heavy myself...but I can go through this one whether I'm 9 years old, or 90.

              There's something there for everything.

I'm working on some of these suggestions, also.
I call it "Desert Island Discs"...but a great thread!
No worries about the wuss vote. Like I said, it doesn't matter what genre it is. I've been listening to heavy music since it was invented, so if someone thinks I'm a wuss for listening to Tori Amos, then as Bill would say, FUGGEM!

Don't forget people, the idea of this thread is to open up our musical horizons. You should all give some of this stuff a try, even if you normally listen only to metal. When you do, post some feedback, whether you liked something or not.

Here's another kinda obscure one. This is Rick Wakeman, the keyboard player from Yes. My Dad always listened to this when I was a kid. I loved it then, and I love it now. I have it on CD though, not vinyl.

Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry VIII

                  Front Line Assembly - Millennium

A truly brilliant album. Mountains of super-heavy riffage, some "realtime", others sampled from such luminaries as Pantera, Metallica and Napalm Death. Dark, dystopian techno industrial madness and large chunks of dialogue ripped from your favourite movies. Kinda like putting Depeche Mode and Pantera in a concrete mixer. If The Borg were a metal band, this is what they'd sound like....

Front Line Assembly: Some of Industrial Musics Finest!

There's a lot of interesting stuff been posted so far. I'm looking forward to other recommendations.

                      In the meantime -
                      Kate Bush - Lionheart

A gorgeous, haunting, and downright sexy album to get lost in. This is even better than her first album, The Kick Inside. (Which you should also check out)
I mean, c'mon, just check out the cover picture. You know you would...

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Wow - The first single from this album

there's plenty of albums mentioned in this thread that I've heard before and many of them are what I would also recommend.

the ones I really like are

Talk Talk - It's My Life
The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry VIII
                        Kate Bush - Lionheart

                        other good ones

                        Killing Joke - ST
UFO - Strangers In The Night
                        Savatage - Streets
                        Bob Seger - Nine Tonight
                        Front Line Assembly - Millenium
"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"To be stupid, selfish and have good health are three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, all is lost" - Gustave Flaubert

                          Herbie Hancock (Headhunters) - Thrust

Jazz keyboard legend Herbie Hancock's project Headhunters second album wich came out in '74. It features some of the most amazing amazing musicians like Bennie Maupin (horns), Bill Summers (percussion) and one of the greatest rhythm sections ever: Paul Jackson (bass) and Mike Clark (drums).
It's not some typical jazz fusion wankfest, although it has some complex elements, it's very very very groovy album. I warn you, it makes your ass move. It's the best mix of jazz/fusion and funk/soul I've ever heard. The beats are just genious, no wonder Mike Clark is one of the most sampled drummers ever.
It's definetly for those who would like to hear jazzy music but without swinging rhythms or ridiculous off-beat/polyrhythm weirdness.
This group was very popular, one of the best selling in jazz and their albums were on the mainstream charts because a lot of average people enjoyed their music.

The best album ever! Very underrated and unknown.

                            Nah, I'm kidding you

The best album out of Sweden ever, PERIOD! Genre defining work back from 95, and it still sounds fresh.

Anvil Bitch - Rise To Offend (1986)

I used to listen to this all the time back in the day. Nothing but thrash from Philly.

                                ok, I've got another one...

Boney M - Ten Thousand light years

My dad brought home the vinyl when I was in 7th grade. When I listen to it even now it brings back fond memories of my childhood. The songs on this album are very different from other Boney M songs and I guess that's why its not one of their most popular albums. But a classic nevertheless
