The list of Past Adherents not Currently in Scientology is interesting, especially folks like Speilberg who I thought was vehemently Jewish, gordon Lightfoot - thought he was hardcore christian for some reason, and Manson, nice.... :
* Oliver Stone - film director
* J.D. Salinger - popular, acclaimed novelist for his novel The Catcher in the Rye
* Brad Pitt - actor
* William S. Burroughs - author and Beat Generation icon
* Christopher Reeve - actor who played "Superman"
* Van Morrison - influential singer, songwriter, musician (lapsed)
* Sharon Stone - actress
* Mikhail Baryshnikov - ballet dancer
* Patrick Swayze - actor
* Kate Capshaw - actress, Steven Spielberg's wife
* Rock Hudson - actor, movie star
* Emilio Estevez - actor
* Candice Bergen - actress, star of TV series Murphy Brown, Boston Public, etc. (may have not actually been a member)
* Stanley Clarke - jazz bassist
* Ricky Martin - singer
* Cathy Lee Crosby - actress
* Gloria Gaynor - singer and "disco queen"
* Frank Stallone - actor, singer, songwriter; brother of Sylvester Stallone
* Demi Moore - actress
* Leif Garrett - pop star
* Gordon Lightfoot - singer, composer, lyricist
* Anne Francis - actress
* Maude Adams - actress, model
* Charles Manson - infamous serial killer
People who have been reported as having connections to Scientology, but have apparently never actually been Scientologists:
- Courtney Love - credited Scientology-associated group Narconon in the liner notes of one of her CDs, but she was not a Church member Premiere Magazine (September 1993)When you take a shower in space, you have to press the water onto your body to clean yourself, and then you gotta vacuum it off. - Ace Frehley

Plus your taxes subsidize their lifestyle, so it does affect you. If they actually set up missions to help the poor, it would at least be a social program that is subsidized by the gov't.
One thing positive I can say about them, they can provide an outlet for addictive people. Some folks may become addicted to their system instead of drugs. I am for that at least.When you take a shower in space, you have to press the water onto your body to clean yourself, and then you gotta vacuum it off. - Ace Frehley

I would hope that I am teaching my kids better than to go off on some "personality test" and decide from that to renounce everything that means anything to them. I may be wrong on that too but if it does happen, I'll blame myself instead of my son or the offending corporation...
My taxes goes to subsidize a lot of religions that I don't agree with. I don't see this as being any different...
If you don't like it, cool. Don't follow it. If someone gets something out of something that I don't agree with, more power to them. Whatever gets you off, I guess. I like chocolate ice cream...I'm angry because you're stupid

I'd like to see them trying to get Keith Richards and Johnny Rotten into their church"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I don't dig anyone soliciting, especially religion. I also don't like subsidizing any religion, but in my (biased and unprofessional) opinion, the scientologists are really pushing it when it comes to qualifying as a religion.
Philosophy, sure, psychology - maybe but unlicensed, helping the community - ummmm can't see it, but Tom seems convincedWhen you take a shower in space, you have to press the water onto your body to clean yourself, and then you gotta vacuum it off. - Ace Frehley
