    +1. My last couple of posts were dripping with sarcasm. I could care less, just do what you do...

      Perhaps the the same areas of the brain that make them so gifted are the same areas required for critical thinking?
      If that's the case, I'm glad I'm not all that talented. Or bright. Wait a minute...furgettaboutit...

            generally I agree with you, like for lifestyle choices, etc, but these fuckheads in this cult are actively trying to inculcate others into their bullshit fraud of a con, and that I cannot look away from. it isn't just their personal beliefs, they won't be happy until you also are forced to "believe" in their garbage. that's the problem.

              I like his movies, don't care what he believes. Also note that he is a professional actor - who's to say he actually believes ANY of that shit?

                I could care less what those people believe. Scientology has not touched my life at all. I have no Scientologist knocking at my door trying to brain wash me. So who cares? I don't...

                Now if you want to talk about Jehovah's Witnesses, I'm right there with ya...

                  Hard to believe these guys are in, however I don't care for any of them particularly anyway - Sheehan and Winters can be interesting at times. For some reason I find it strange that Beck is one of them too.

                  Billy Sheehan
                  Edgar Winters
                  Rob Thomas
                  Beck

                  The list of Past Adherents not Currently in Scientology is interesting, especially folks like Speilberg who I thought was vehemently Jewish, gordon Lightfoot - thought he was hardcore christian for some reason, and Manson, nice.... :

                  * Oliver Stone - film director
                  * J.D. Salinger - popular, acclaimed novelist for his novel The Catcher in the Rye
                  * Brad Pitt - actor
                  * William S. Burroughs - author and Beat Generation icon
                  * Christopher Reeve - actor who played "Superman"
                  * Van Morrison - influential singer, songwriter, musician (lapsed)
                  * Sharon Stone - actress
                  * Mikhail Baryshnikov - ballet dancer
                  * Patrick Swayze - actor
                  * Kate Capshaw - actress, Steven Spielberg's wife
                  * Rock Hudson - actor, movie star
                  * Emilio Estevez - actor
                  * Candice Bergen - actress, star of TV series Murphy Brown, Boston Public, etc. (may have not actually been a member)
                  * Stanley Clarke - jazz bassist
                  * Ricky Martin - singer
                  * Cathy Lee Crosby - actress
                  * Gloria Gaynor - singer and "disco queen"
                  * Frank Stallone - actor, singer, songwriter; brother of Sylvester Stallone
                  * Demi Moore - actress
                  * Leif Garrett - pop star
                  * Gordon Lightfoot - singer, composer, lyricist
                  * Anne Francis - actress
                  * Maude Adams - actress, model
                  * Charles Manson - infamous serial killer

                  People who have been reported as having connections to Scientology, but have apparently never actually been Scientologists:
                  - Courtney Love - credited Scientology-associated group Narconon in the liner notes of one of her CDs, but she was not a Church member Premiere Magazine (September 1993)

                      If you send your kids downtown in any college town, they may be abducted - or invited for a free personality test. Every major college town has a recruitment base it seems ready to drag you in off the street. It's just as bad as the "door knockers" in it's own way.

                      Plus your taxes subsidize their lifestyle, so it does affect you. If they actually set up missions to help the poor, it would at least be a social program that is subsidized by the gov't.

                      One thing positive I can say about them, they can provide an outlet for addictive people. Some folks may become addicted to their system instead of drugs. I am for that at least.

                        I may be wrong because I've never looked but I'm not sure there is a big Scientology contingent here in Iowa. But I could be wrong. Doesn't look like there is enough money here for them...

                        I would hope that I am teaching my kids better than to go off on some "personality test" and decide from that to renounce everything that means anything to them. I may be wrong on that too but if it does happen, I'll blame myself instead of my son or the offending corporation...

                        My taxes goes to subsidize a lot of religions that I don't agree with. I don't see this as being any different...

                        If you don't like it, cool. Don't follow it. If someone gets something out of something that I don't agree with, more power to them. Whatever gets you off, I guess. I like chocolate ice cream...

                            And a lot of ex addicts and alcoholics get addicted to religion. That's the way AA and NA set it up. You see it in a lot of different denominations...

                                I see it as different from other "religions", but not hugely.

                                I don't dig anyone soliciting, especially religion. I also don't like subsidizing any religion, but in my (biased and unprofessional) opinion, the scientologists are really pushing it when it comes to qualifying as a religion.
                                Philosophy, sure, psychology - maybe but unlicensed, helping the community - ummmm can't see it, but Tom seems convinced
