I think he just needs something to do after all the schools in his area told him to stop hanging around in a trenchcoat trying to recruit and pick up chicks. At least thats the impression I get.........

Hey, I don't like him, but I have nothing against him. As far as I'm concerned, he's entertainment. At least he's not annoying like Rosie O'Donnel, or hundreds of others I could mention.I keep the bible in a pool of blood

How you think, what you feel, what you believe in. Everything. I know a few people with money, none like what Cruise has, and I shake my head on a daily basis hearing the shit that comes out of their mouth. They are so far removed from "normal" people like us, we can't even fathom what their thought process is...
Excellent point. With that much serious money and power the boundaries of his world are seriously different to mine, and a lot of others I suspect. It's hard to predict how certain people will react when the constrictions of everyday life are taken away. At some point Tom must of been a fairly normal kind of guy. When he hears the story of scientology for the first time surely there must of been a small voice somewhere deep in his mind saying this sounds ridiculous. Obviously that voice has now been completely suppressed.
In some ways it's just another elitist group. Half its members are probably only there because of celebrities involved. It gives them justification to their vacuous meaningless lives to be involved in the same organization as "big" movie stars and the like.
But seriously there must have been even a small whimper of a voice somewhere in his head. You just couldn't listen to this shit for the first time and accept it.
Could you?

But we all knew he was an idiot, right? I doubt he knows this crap is fake, like some of the other higher ups. He's just not that good an actor
It takes a while to decipher just what the hell he's saying a lot of the time. SPs, KSW, out-ethics, etc. This is definitely 'in-house not for the outside world' stuff meant to bolster the troops. If anyone wants to go through it again seeing what he's talking about, there's a list Scientology terms here: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/scientology/dictionary/

actually I'm not interested in my favourite musicians/artists/whatever personal beliefs etc. I like them because what they create not what they belive in or how they act in real life"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
