  • Kitchen Appliance Question.

Wife and I are doing a kitchen remodel soon. We have decided to go with a dual fuel range in probably the 36 inch size.

Our choice is between a Wolf and Viking, do any of you have any experience with these brands? I think most recognize the Viking name, but some have been steering us towards Wolf, with a few for DSC(?).

Anyone have any real world experience with these pieces?

What? An old Viking can produce enough gas to be able to cook for days.:ROTF:

Consumer Reports say that the designer/industrial appliances have no better benefit than more common models. Just a higher price tag and of course the status that comes with it.

Momma used GE, and I still use GE.
I have her cookpots, and her choice is my choice, for ranges.

I can't tell for sure but it seems like their are two different companies named Wolf. There are definitely 2 websites and 2 different logos. You should check out Garland too.
                          Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

My understanding is that there is Wolf(owned by Sub Zero) which seems more focused on residential and Wolf Commercial grade.

Garland was mentioned too. I want to say Garland/Bluestreak or something like that.

Ditto the Consumer Reports comment on the high end appliances.

                              Also check out:

Appliance repairt forum. You can read about problems people have had.

Seems like all new appliances these days suck ass to some degree.

In October I bought a $2400 GE bottom freezer/french door refrigerator. Stainless steel, icemaker, water dispenser, etc. After a few weeks, the ice maker breaks. Then a few weeks later we have a power surge and the control panel on the front is flashing codes. But the unit still works. After some visits by the repair company and three months later, I finally get the new ice maker, and the front panel now works fine.

I had to get my 10 year old dryer repaired recently. All the repair companies I talked to all said to get an extended warranty because all the new stuff breaks down, regardless of type of appliance.

Also, even though I said check Consumer Reports, take some of it with a grain of salt. They rated some washers/dryers very highly, but when I read online reviews, the ones they rate highly people hate. Also the ones they said sucked were all highly recommended by the repair companies for not having problems.
