  • Being half blind

I am blind in my right eye. I also am so nearsighted that it's not funny. I love working on my guitars. I actually soldered up my Mod 1. I have to take off my glasses to see close enough to solder and I set them down. My vision is so shitty I can't see to find the fuckers. I kinda just use my hands to feel for them. Christ. I need a pair of glasses to find the ones I just set down.

Maybe it's one of the new ones that can park itself.

          Don't grab the soldering iron.

Get a hobby magnifier. The kind with the swing arm, and light.
It will do two things: help you see what you are doing,
and save your good eye from potential hot solder splatter and fumes.

            Thank You.

I just turn my head more than others.:ROTF: But, I hate when someone walks up on my blind side. The great State of Washington gave me a driver's license. Actually, I am probably a safer driver. BTW. I always take up two parking spaces as far away from anyother vehicle.

Or one of those neck-chain things for the glasses.

That would just get in the way. I have to be 2 inches away. Cyg is right. I am going to get safety glasses before I do anymore fucking around with solder. And, yes I have one of those hobbie things. I just have to move to the Summer Home.

So you're able to drive okay with just the one eye? I've always thought it wouldn't be too easy, what with the no depth perception and all... One of my old friends has a glass eye, I've always wondered how he's managed to motor around without killing anyone/himself yet...

It's not that hard to use other cues to see depth - just try covering one of your eyes and walking around the house.

I thought you had to get the driving test once more every year, if you had one blind eye.Maybe in some states?

According to this website, OK in all states as long as the good eye is correctable to 20/20 and it shouldn't matter outside of 20 feet:

I received an injury to my left eye and had to wear a patch for a couple of days. I tried driving to work, but I felt it was unsafe. I guess you can eventually get used to it, but no matter how comfortable you feel, I still can't imagine it being safe.
