I would assume the old method:
Whatever distance the shotgun could shoot was your piece of the ocean.

I understand the people who think buying something live, then cooking it, is a bit uneasy on the appetite. Visit a farm sometime. Or better yet, a slaughterhouse. It would curl your hair. But I'm an omnivore, and I love my meats and my veggies and fruits, too.

you could be on to something there. That is just about the distance they space them. Assuming no one is using slugs that is.

well fett, at least you can get some good lobster in the pacific nw. thought i'd find some great seafood here (they named a style of cooking seafood after this place for fucks sake). but all the seafood here is "unfresh" to say the least. and i can't even get good shellfish here. no steamers, no fresh clams, no good mussels. can't wait to go back to ct where my buddy's dad catches fresh clams every day in long island sound. best clams on the half shell/clams casino i've ever had.

I love clams, also. Here in South Carolina, you might as well be asking for
Liver Lips. They act like you are out of your mind. I've only found littlenecks ONCE, and the rest are pure garbage. Oh, well.
