I don't think they choked. Nothing happens in a vacuum. The Giants played close to a perfect game on defense. They managed to use their superior speed & strength on the D-line for the whole game. They got consistent pressure on Brady & disrupted him without having to over-commit & get shredded with the short stuff, and still kept the running game in check. Talk about a tall order! No one else was able to do that for a whole game against them all season, and toward the end the Pats started to click as the Giants linemen were getting gassed & the pressure eased up. The Pats damn near pulled off another close win, but the Giants were able to put together that great drive at the end. Another thing no one else was able to do against them all season. I just think it was an awesome game that the Giants won, rather than the Pats choked.

I do also agree w/ CharvelRocker about them not going for that field goal. He made similar decisions all year, and I guess he figured it was time that momentum was going to start going their way, just like in about every game all year that wasn't a blowout from the start. Bad gamble in this case, but again they still almost won despite it. I still say the Giants deserve the credit for making more key plays & winning the game.

Wasn't that going to be like a 54 yard try? They don't have Viniteri anymore. Their kickers longest to date was 52 yards. I understand why they didn't go for it. They were playing the "field position" game...

I agree with dg though. To say the Patriots choked is really diminishing the game played by the Giants D-line. They had a great game and made Brady pay every time he touched the ball...

Well, even at 49 yards, it's not a gimme. Shows how much faith the coach has in the kicker. But that would have really set up NY if they missed it...

Best Superbowl ever! The refs didn't make bad calls and let the players play. Since any play could potentially break a game open, this Monday morning quarterbackin' doesn't mean much. Giants controlled the game and played harder. I loved seeing the arrogant cheaters disappear at the end of the game. If baby Bill wants to get in the tunnel so he can have a little cry to make him feel better, so be it!

That was something that I thought was classless. Bill leaving the field early. I have a feeling the problem comes down to a bad clock operator. I saw several clock problems in the last 2 minutes. So the clock may have run down to :00 on the field and the refs told them to put a second back on. But when he ran up to Caughlin when the refs were trying to get everyone off the field and said his thing to him and ran off before the game was over, total lack of class. The dude is a baby and it showed big time right then. Game not over? Coach shouldn't leave the field...

i think Bill could use a little lesson in class from the Pat's fan right here

:ROTF::ROTF::ROTF: The Mannings seem like a class act. Eli should gloat. And Peyton should slap him upside the head.:ROTF: And Archie is one proud dad.

Bullshit. The refs sucked. They missed more than a few pass interference and face mask calls. To Bill's defense, its possible he didn't hear or even know in the confusion, but I don't think he should of been ripped like Mike on PTI did, which was totally uncalled for imo. that said, it doesn't help Bill's image at all.

Another interesting fact; the Pats technically had a better record than the 72 Dolphins by wining 18 Straight, not 17. That means the pats had the best record in history.

Well, the Dolphins couldn't win 18..there weren't 18 for them to play. Oh, and they didn't LOSE one. I guess that would be the difference.

                              Dolphins record of 17 - 0 = winning percentage of 100%
                              Pats record of 18 - 1 = winning percentage of 95%

So, I guess it's in how you figure it.

Ah, but you could argue by going 18-0, the Pats beat the record then. Its certainly not an irrelevant stat, as it technically makes them the best team in history.
