Yeah, I always loved the Starfighters.
On that occasion, there were a pair of German Marine 104s doing their routine. One of them did a low and slow pass down the runway, gear down, flaps and brakes open. We were all watching him, amazed at how anything with wings that small could possibly fly that slowly. Of course, we weren't watching his buddy who had flown off, turned around and flown back fast. He came screaming past, zero feet, at what we were later told was .96 mach. Scared the shit out of everybody!

    Fuck, I love jet fighters.

Wow. My dad use to build those things. He would put hours on top of hours doing it. Funny thing is, he never flew any of them. I think he just like building them.

The F-104 was proof that anything will fly given enough thrust. They didn't call it the "missile with a man in it" for nothing.

I'm trying to remember the touchdown speed I heard for the F-104, but I think it was up around 160-170 knots, which is up around 200 mph. That's a smokin' landing speed and it basically means you have to change tires after every couple of landings.
Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.

I just looked into this and apparently the F35, which is a joint project between NATO countries, is also named the Lightning II.
I've bumped this one just to post this new video of the F35 prototype.

hey you guys check this out.

This is a page from a comic I'm working on. Do you recognise the kind of Jet I put in there?

And here's the page after that. I made a little joke here: the guy in the picture with the uniform is standing infront of USSR built Mig 21 fighters with USAF insignia's

Top plane is an F-4E Phantom it appears... kind of out dated and clunky by today's Standards, but when my dad was in the USAF during Vietnam, the Phantom was considered one of the TOP fighters of its time (he worked out of Guam and the Philippines on early unmanned units for the records).

                          Bengal,

The time difference on those previous posts to Scotty's is 15 minutes. Scotty could have easily got in this thread before 1:44, then hit reply, look for a P-51 pic, etc. without seeing the P-51 mentions. Basically, you guys all posted around the same time frame.

So, basically, you owe Scotty an apology for your shitty attitude -- and you really should go back on your meds or something.

Phantoms were fast but Mig21s could tear them to pieces in dogfights because they had no onboard guns... It was the AF/Navy's big mistake in vietnam, to go all missiles.

Luckely the Navy also had THESE to their disposal...
