The doctor supervision thing would not have been there. I know a 3 people whose drug of choice are prescription drugs. They dont go to one doctor to get them. They see two or three different docs for the same problem. Most of the doctors have no idea about the others. They also avoid chain drug stores favoring the ma and pa places. For each doctor they see they have a different pharmacy they hit. All of the docs and the drug stores are unaware of each other. One of them buys his stuff from a local dristibutors delivery driver. I dont think that source is going to last him long though. He probably will not care because he is always on the look out for his next source. He has no delusions about what he is doing. He knows full well that he is abusing drugs. The other two keep up a constant charade of chronic pain and unfortunate injuries to keep the stuff coming in. It is comical to watch but at the same time pitifully sad.

See it has to be widespread and broken if a couple of bored guitarded people see the root of the problem and nothing is being done. This is a problem that could be mitigated if not solved.

I am surprised that the answers may come from insurance companies, screening what kind of meds people are getting and investigating.

They have the tools - your medical records and their payouts to doctors and pharmacies
They have the motivation - your triple medicating and dr. visits cost them money.

Unfortunately, folks that aren't part of the problem will end up getting denied meds in the dragnet if it goes down that way.

Also, it doesn't stop self pay folks, but that could be a real expensive way to get meds anyway, so I dunno how many Joes get them as uninsured.

Good points here also. But, even if you go to 75 different docs, the same warning labels are on all the bottles (or close), so you should READ the info, and not mix/match/drink etc. That is still "user error" if you will. It actually says one of the possible side effects is...DEATH.

i was in a car accident last summer broke my backin 2 places broke 2 ribs was laid up for a few months. I was prescribed oxycontin/oxycodone, percocet & vicodin. combining them is serious shit & i say this as a person that had some serious demons prior in life. an oxy & a few percocets or Vic's are enough to make you little more than a drooling idiot , & so very numb. i dont know how any DR could prescribe all these at once unless there was serious problem, like i said i had compression fractures on 2 vertebre & 2 broken ribs, it wasnt fun. In the hospital i was being shot up with deluadin, its like morphin, i think that was the most fucked up ive ever felt. granted even with the pain killers i was in so much pain i could barely stand & needed alot of help getting in & out of bed for the first few weeks

Wow...

This really made me think of my own mortality..
I'm an addict- a semi recovering addict, honestly, I binge out about every 6-8 months max. Its a cycle I'm having trouble beating. Usually heroin.

I'm on some prescriptions that I abuse semi-frequently too.
Its not uncommon for me to take a large dose of Klonopin (60mg once- an entire bottle), a small handfull of ambiens (6 or 7), and a small handfull of 10mg percocets and/or 20mg Oxycontins...I've done this cocktail at least once every 2 months when I get refills (and wow, the pathetic stories I've told the doc about non-existant roomates that steal my pills so I can get another refill.) I've even mixed the scripts after doing a few buttons of heroin...

I'm not proud of this, and I have no idea why I'm posting this here- but I gotta vent. I've had death on my mind a lot lately...
I'm still here, and conscious of the effects of my actions...
I'm trying to end the cycle, honestly... which is why the cycle gets longer intrevals every time...

But I still wonder if I'll end up dead in my late 30's or early 40's clean as a whistle, happy, family etc because of the stupid shit I've done to myself in the last 4 or 5 years.
