Computer/video issues

I've been having some serious issues with watching videos lately.

Say I go to youtube.com and watch a video, it's fine. Same with say Myspace.com videos

Say I have a video and I watch it in media player...it's not so fine. It's all dark, and if I increase the brightness settings, it looks like infrared or some shit like that.

video drivers are current, Win XP SP2.

What kind of card?

Download vlc media player and see if it's that way there too. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If it is, check the video controls/settings for the video card.

Geforce FX5500 on this computer. I ran the settings and adjusted the brightness and gamma, but videos are still total dogshit.

That's a known issue with Nvidia that is supposed to have been fixed with the latest drivers. If you are still having the problem with the latest drivers, try rolling the driver back and then re-install the newest version again.
