I can understand what you're saying, to a point...

But why the hatred for the other side? That's what I don't understand. The thought that someone who doesn't think like "I" do is my enemy. That's where politics have failed us. We are Americans first, right? Or are we Republicans and Democrats first, Americans second?

Why is truth percieved as hate?
And why does Rush always raise such a red flag? I listen to Tom Hartman on Air America, I listen to NPR, I listen to Rush. What's the problem with that?

Rush made his name as anti established media. Thus the visceral mainstream media attacks. It's almost funny how much the Washington insiders and old guard Republicans hate him. I would wager only about 5 percent of the poeple who listen to him "get it." the other 95 percent only grab what they think he is about and run with it (and he feeds that, with a smirk), or are so blinded with hate that they don't ever understand his odd humour.
To me, he was an off-center mediocre DJ who started kicking up dust, and then revived talk radio. After that, he's a parody of himself, and I smile when he occassionally acknowledges that fact. He is a very insecure, private guy. But an Icon of talk radio.

I felt that way when I was your age, also.
Then I started earning some money, and started a business.
And found out exactly what sort of toll the price of government was.

Then, dig a bit under the surface, and you find out you are not getting your money's worth out of the deal, and find out what "welfare", and "corporate
welfare" really is. Bottom line, the bowels of many governments are nasty places, intentional or not. And there is little incentive to improve performance.
The more socialist the governments, the worst it gets.

And for Bengal, once again...I have visits to Toronto, my in laws stay in Europe (different places) every year, and I deal with reps in my shop from Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany quite frequently. So even if I don't get out, I get the News of The World, from everday citizens, frequently.

I think we have been reminded why there are 2 things to stay clear of with others to remain friends. The first is politics, and the second is religion. Right there is the 2 most destructive forces know to mankind (I think the 3rd is Wal Mart tied with off shoring, but that’s another story).

I've changed my opinion, and grown throughout the years. I don't strive to change yours or GoR's, I only seek to make you understand where I come to my view. I come off as a hardcore conservative, but I know that no party can fit anyone completely. I still come down to what I have always said...study history, don't trust opinions, and then learn why politicians act the way they do. But, bottom line, I love our freedom, I love the debate, and I don't "hate" the "other side".
