Dude, i am sorry but you are crazy if you really believe this. I have been in the medical field one way or another for the last 7 years and what you have just said is complete rubbish. The physicians are not "taught" to use drug company drugs. They are taught however, to make a decision on what drug to use based on Evidence Based Medicine. There is tons of research and development done to give them the best option to use. While I will agree with you about Botox and some of the "negatives" that are associated with it, for the most part it is a Luxury type of drug. Not a necessity. I am not sure why the physician decided to go this route with Botox other than he obvioulsy thought it was the right move. Believe me, no physician is going to prescribe any product because the drug company says to. They are responsible for any outcome form any malpractice that occurs under their supervision and they know that.
To say that about Vioxx is just silly, too. Vioxx is one of the most prescribed drugs in the history of medicine because it works when prescribed correctly. The 50mg dose is the dose in question and only became a problem for people who took it everyday for years who already had a pre-existing heart condition. The incidence of hypertension and edema being increased was about 15% in those cases. Now let's look at the numbers. There were MILLIONS of prescriptions of Vioxx written for the signs and sympotoms of osteoarthritis over the past 10 or so years. The number who have died "because of Vioxx" is less than 20 in all those prescriptions. There are plenty of people out there still alive with no side effects whatsoever. The 12.5mg and 25mg doses worked just fine.
If it were me, and I had cancer or any other type of disease, I'd want the best that money could buy. I have no problem with holistic type drugs and they have their place in the medical field, too. I think different types of medicine work for different types of people and they all respond to them differently. A good balance is probably best.
Charvelrocker, I am sorry to hear about your situation. That sucks for sure. I would definitely get a second opionion and go to who you think is best for you. I hope the best for you, stay tough!
