Its tough to pick just 10....although I've always said that if I could have just one CD...it would be Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti. I just think that every musical texture & mood you could want is there.

I didn't get it then, and I still don't get it now. Oh, well.

Her music is *thematically* heavy. In a realistic way, not in a climb-a-mountain-and-kill-a-dragon-for-satan way. Lisen to her covers of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Slayer's "Raining Blood" and maybe it'll make sense. Maybe.

The think with Tori, is the same reason I love Kate Bush. Yes, they sound similar vocally, but that's just a coincidence IMO. Compare either of them to other contemporary femal vocalists, and you'll realize that they aren't the kind of elevator music that is played on all the adult contemporary radio stations with names like EZROCK and LITE105.7 and crap like that. We know this kinda shit here in Canada. We have Jan Arden, Chantal Kreviazuk, Celine Dion, etc, etc. Basically, boring, whiny, derivative shite that makes you want to stick sharpened pencils in both your ears. Both Tori and Kate prove that you can have melody without being boring. They use their voices in imaginitive ways. It's hard to explain. Listen to their stuff. You'll either get it, or you wont.

I got into Tori around '92 or '93 after Under The Pink came out. I heard one of her tunes on the radio and liked it, I also bought the issue of Rolling Stone with her on the cover and read about her in one or two other mags after that. I've got her first four CDs plus the Crucify EP and the covers CD, as well as the live DVD. I need to pick up her newer stuff.

I couldnt help being into Kate Bush. My parent's listened to her when I was a kid. It's nostalgic. I do prefer Tori though.
