I notice the following...
The activity dropped off alot when the classifieds were 1st changed to not allow responses. That used to be my favorite part of the site because of all the reviews and critiques and the great deals. You could learn more about gear in those old classifieds then anywhere else on the web.
Then.. the activity dropped even more when the classifieds became a pay to see section.

For me, the JCF was a great learning tool 7 years or so ago when I first joined and I was finding my feet both in terms of the internet and 'outside the catalogues' knowledge of J/C guitars.
However, many (most?) of those original 'sensei' guys are long gone now and my personal opinion is that the board has headed towards general conversation, rather than the specific infomation. Maybe that's because the specifics have all been discussed to death? I dunno....Also, inherently, there are only so many topics, and so it's only a matter of time before things recycle.
Also (and I'm genuinely not trying to be elitest here), if I'm honest I can't get too excited about imports, USA Selects or yet another Alexi guitar any more.
I know all too well that these threads have their place but it's just that from a personal perspective, I'm sorry but I've seen them all too many times to care any moreI'm still interested in unusal old stuff which can be had pretty cheap, so it's not all about guys who drop big cash on customs, it's just about trying to find 'new' stuff that interests me....
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

I think all forums eventually change into general conversation boards. All but the most specific questions have been asked and answered several times. The core group of members just enjoy talking with each other.
If J/C comes out with something really new and exciting, I'm sure there will be more J/C related talk and probably a lot of new members eager to talk about things. For now, let's just enjoy each other's company. This thread has shown that the core members are still here.Scott

Is it pay to SEE too? I thought it was just pay to place ads. But that too has to have slowed down activityin there.
The thing I notice that might seem trivial, is that you don't see the latest ad in the Classifieds anymore when you open the front page. That was what usually prompted me to look in the Classifieds anyway.
I do agree that the reply function helped in the old Classifieds, but the admins got complaints when people's ads got jacked by people saying, "Too much" or "if it only had a Floyd". But I think the benefits outweighed the irritations. Reply is now allowed in the current Classifieds btw; I don't know if it's limited to Platinum Members or not though.
The admins are probably happy with a quiet Classifieds because if a deal went bad people expected them to step in and work it out, and that shouldn't be their problem. Hence the Feedback section.Ron is the MAN!!!!

I look forward to the days when the entire JCF gangs up on a bullshit eBay seller. It puts a little spring in my step when we take one of those fuckers down. :ROTF:_________________________________________________
