They've actually isolated genes responsible for many things like Downs syndrome. They know exactly where they occur. No one's found anything like this for pedophilia. BUT almost all of em were raped as kids. It's very PC today to claim everything is genetic so no one has to have blame for their actions.

it's not only about the heritable genes... you have to look at the bigger picture... DNA and the whole organism... some specific chain of chemical elements wich can cause some reaction can be recessive in most people but dominant in few.. then we have to consider the mutation factor wich happens all the time... it happens to everyone and sometimes the mutation is pretty bad wich can lead to an organism with different kind of reactions and behaviors.
when two things are built with using the same elements but constructed differently then we have two things wich characters are different... that goes for human beings and pretty much everything in this universe
there's no tabula rasa, yes the enviorment changes how each thing develops but the development still comes from its nature
one kid is fat, the other one is thin... it's becuase they are "built" differently
one kid likes Led Zeppelin the other one Eminem... it's not a choice... different organisms... different characters... it comes from their nature (how they were "built")

genetics is a very misleading word, most probably consider it some gene thing wich you get from your parents... blue eyes from mom, black hair from dad etc. but everyone have different actions... because their choice becomes from their nature... everyone has a different nature... because everyone is "built" differently

I don't think alcohol is EVH's main issue... I think it is a massive ego and a holier than thou attitude. I'm sure he's drunk onstage because he figures that he is so good and people love him so much, that it really won't matter. He'll play great regardless. I've said it once, I'll say it again... EVH has sucked on this tour. The proof is all over youtube, and I've seen it with my own two eyes back in October. I hope he gets his act together, but his playing has been embarrassingly horrible. Maybe that one armed guy should go out on tour with Dave, Alex, and Mikey. Then maybe you'd get close to your money's worth.

Now, you may have certain inbread traits that lead you to have an addictive personality, but it can be controlled through either discipline or (depending how severe) treatment. I can't stand when people make excuses for things that they do... Take some responsibility.

I don't know if alcoholism is a gene thing or not. I said that in my first post. Some call it a disease. Some call it a kind of brian deformaty. I call it more of a processing error.

All I know is alcohol effects me differently than my best buddy. Back when I drank, as soon as that first drink went down, it was on. I mean on. There was never a night were it was 2 or 3 beers and then bed. Every night it was 14-20 beers and pass out. My buddy can do the 2 or 3 per night and that's it. He can do the drinking on the weekend only thing. I always wanted to do that but I ended up drinking every night.

What causes that difference? I don't know. Doesn't really matter, I guess. It is what it is.

Yes, I CHOSE to drink every day for about 10 years straight. That was a choice. No doubt about it. But it wasn't as easy to quit for me like it would be to my buddy. I knew what I was doing was wrong and destructive but I didn't care. That was the addiction side taking over. So then I CHOSE to get some help and have not drank for a few years. That is another choice I have and I take this one. But I also undersand there is another voice inside those addicted that try all the time to get you to drink. And we LOVE to drink, I just don't like the effects of it anymore. So I don't.

But it's a struggle at times. But it's my cross to bear. Something I did to myself a long time ago. So I blame no one but myself. You won't see me blame my genes. There is something different in us from most folks but what it is doesn't matter to me.

So who knows where it comes from. It just is for some of us.
