And blogging sites have the bandwidth and the technology to get someone up and running. You don't have to be a web designer to do it either. Hell, with the way some of these sites go, a blogger can maybe make a couple bucks, or pay for their own domain, by leveraging some advertising.

Leveraging the free sites like MySpace could open a whole new world of possiblities.

In theory, you're right but from my personal point of view, you're dead wrong. My declining interest in this board is directly related to the increase in mindless drivel, posted these past couple of years.... by fett in particular and snowballed by others. That's no secret.

I read this board by clicking "New Posts" at the top. Normally, that's a good way for me to read and respond, but when 80% of the search result are posts from fett and about stuff I cannot even grasp or relate to, it gets tiresome.

For a long time I've skipped his posts, but it just doesn't work for me anymore. I find myself posting less because of this ever growing pile of junk I have to sift through.

I used to like fett and his alternative posts, but it's out of control and has been for a long time.

This all might sound harsh to new members here, but you have to understand that the content of the JCF used to be 90% guitar info and 10% high quality humour/socializing and that's what kept me coming back.

So lerx, it has stopped me from posting threads by my own. I never thought it would bother me, but it has. His " That's it. I'm gone" thread was the stupidest and most unclassy act I've seen in a long time.

You have to realize that not everyone sees it this way. Yes, there are some that enjoy Fetts posts. There are some that tolerate them, and there are some that find them annoying. It takes work to run a board, and if one user is taking up 10% of the resources, is that fair to everyone else? Is that fair to the guys who run the board? This forum is first and foremost for discussion on Jackson/Charvel guitars and related issues. The off topic stuff is minimal, or I should say, was minimal, until Fett decided to adopt the board as his own personal random thought dumpster. It should be quality over quantity, and not the other way around. There's nothing wrong with off topic threads, but monopolizing a board to get your jollies is going overboard. As I've said before, it's pretty bad when some decent threads get bumped to page 2 because page 1 has 20 fett threads, some of which, to put it bluntly, are pure, mindless drivel.

you know, I'm sure I posted something very similar late last night (including something about "this morning's 20 new posts" pushing other people's topics to page 3. But I can't for the life of me find the thread I posted it in. Ah, it's great posting sleep deprived....

Heck, there's lots of ways to fund a website. You could even buy and sell junk for a profit, then use part of the proceeds to fund the site. Lot's of ways to do it.

I'm surprised how many time my "Ghost Town" post has been brought up in this thread.

Like others, I have been participating less on here probably due to 2 reason.

The first being what seems to be the decline of the J/C brand. Used to be members were getting new pieces production and CS weekly, there was always something to check out, ask questions about. People were excited to run ideas out and get opinions. Lots on guitar talk on a guitar board.

Now with the prices/wait times/QC the way it is now, most have moved on to other things or brands. Maybe and hopefully the company changes are are supposed to come up change this. Bringing life back to the place a little.

The 2nd reason has been the same reason as many have stated. The huge increase of just random thought post. This area of the forum has become a personal blog for a few member, namely fett with Cyg bumping them. When I come down here to check things out and I see those 2 have half of the new post, I usually just move on.

A lot of the other high poster have moved on or just post a few time a week now, leaving a huge gap and maybe those 2 feel it's their duty to fill up that void, with just anything that pops in their head.

Personally I think this board seeing less activity has nothing to do with Fett or the other so-called mindless drivel. I'm pretty sure there has been plenty of mindless drivel on this board all along.

In fact, for me it is one of the reasons to come here.

I honestly don't get off on talking about Jackson/Charvel guitars (or any other brand)day in and out. But hooking up with folks that are of like mind (pointy guitars, 80's metal, graphics, etc.) is why I show up. This is one of the wonderful things the Internet has brought us - a community. There aren't but a handful of people in my area that share these interests and I suspect the same is true for many of you as well. So this becomes a place to BS with people that "get it" because there is almost nobody else around you that does.

This place is virtual but real "things" happen here all the time - friendships, hardships, etc.

If anything is causing this board to slow down it's the brand itself. I have no data to support this but as near as I can tell the interest in J/C guitars dwindling more and more all the time. Both Tracey and Chuck's boards are slower than they used to be. I checked in at jacksonforums.com the other day and it really has never picked up much steam. I'm not sure about Jani's board - I didn't have much time to check it out the other day.

At the same time, The Gear Page, Jemsite, Huge Racks, TDPRI, etc. are all buzzing with activity.

I don't think that's because of Fett or any other off topic stuff here. Fett almost always posts in the Off Topic, Ebay, and Other Manufacturers areas - those of you coming here to talk J/C shop should actually be largely unaffected by Fett so don't blame him. And his "mindless" stuff has pretty much always just been in the Off Topic area. Fett is also not guilty of many shit storms other than the ones started by folks feeding him shit for his goofy ideas - in other words, the people bitching the most are the ones that perpetuate the very shit they complain about.

In conclusion, HIPPIETIM for President - write me in!!!!

Absolutely. I was more or less just saying how easy it is. Hell, when I started my site it was free, I started it off a hosting package that came with my ISP.

Now, it comes out of my own pocket, but if I really wanted I could go all "commercial" with it and try to rake in the pennies it wouldn't take much. But that would mean that I'd have to actually put something up there that people would want to see.
