wow. i'm glad i inspired such a thought provoking discussion here.....
given the volume of responses its hard for me to formulate a response/argument of my own, but there are a few rthings i picked up on...
i agree with what some people say about acrime being a crime, and i agree about the inverse reacism crap...hate crime if its white v black...nothing if its black v white...political correctness gone mad....i am remind of a few christmases ago where birmingham celebrated everyone elses festivals in full glory but refused to put up xmas displats becausae they could be offensive to sikhs...utter bullcrap....
someone said about killing someone beacause she was brown haired and he was blonde....forgive me, but what does that have to do with subculture?
a lot of people have been sying that all murders are hate related. this is simply not true...what about psychopaths who kill without emotion or remorse, or serial killers who kill for the power it gives them? thats not hate thats personal gratification....
...but then surely a hate crime is about personal gratification...making urself better and more powerful and fear inspiring to those people (race, subculture,sex etc)who u decide (really for no good reason other than it makes u feel big) are beneath u or disgusting or infadels....?
but it also raises (well has already raised) the point that murdering someone for no other reason other than their orientation or the colour of their skin is far worse than just killing someone in a fight for example, because of the sheer narrow mindedness, pigheadedness, stupidity, and blind intolerance of the offender, which is completely unacceptable in this society we claim to live in....
...mmmm hypocrisy....that word comes to mind with a lot of these points...not at the guys here for what they have said of course, but for the system and the face it puts out when really everyone is guilty of some intolerance. its like the new york governer basing his campaign and career on morality when he is guilty of something himself. but then people can put down and berrate the things closest to them very easily can't they? after all they know it so well....
