  • So Bill, did you check out the new Into Eternity yet? Been rocking out to it in my truck for a few days. Very different from The Scattering of Ashes, which I think is just as good, if not better than Buried in Oblivion.
Incurable Tragedy's strengths are definitely in the guitar playing, Tim Roth sounds much better. The older stuff always seemed to me like he was playing beyond his capabilities, some of the leads sounded kind of sloppy. Much cleaner now. The main thing I don't like about it is Stu Block doing way more falsetto type vocals. That and the songs don't seem as cohesive as they did on Ashes. It is a concept album, so some of the songs are less than a minute, which bugs me, but there is some very cool acoustic parts. All in all a good buy, but it just seems to be lacking something. Worth a listen, though.

so because it's rock instead of metal you find it surprising that the songs are cathcy considering that rock'n'roll has always been about cathcy songs unlike metal?

      just messing with 'ya :ROTF:

Monster Magnet does kick ass... fucking AWESOME live band

      • I still find it creepy that Into Eternity originated in a mediocre city 2 and a half hours from my current location.

Agreed with the Endbat and Charvelrocker there. This new wave of shred in guitar playing really has me burned out on guitar dominated music. Nothing gives me goosebumps more than a strong vocal line. Granted, I still love extreme metal, but a great chorus or vocal melody gets me every time. Makes me wish I could sing and play at the same time, something I've never been able to do.

          • I got so fuggin' baked with Into Internity..when I hooked up with JCF bro Ace..those dudes are the real puff daddies!. They've been through some changes..but I dig 'em!

DrRocknbro..You could have both man. There is so many catchy metal with some of the best vocals ever recorded!!! With hooks last a lifetime!! Don't be discouraged by that shit that get so much promotion. Most of that is 100% pure shit man..I hate it myself..it truly sux da pud!

But I haven't picked up their new one yet...I just have the three.

His falsetto vox goes over MUCH beter live than recorded. He's a bit nasily of the recordings...they have more poswer live. I saw then three times suporrting on different bills in the last 6 years ro so..their abibliteies have imprroved with each release, so that's good.

            • I hear you man. That's why I loved the last Into Eternity so much, Stu Block keeping in the middle vocal range a lot and just powerful hooks along with some badass riffing. Good shit indeed. RIght now, I'm about to rock some Alice in Chains. Some of the best vocal harmonies, killer basslines, and Jerry Cantrell was one hell of a riff writer. I shall return after a bit of Facelift and Dirt, maybe some Sap if I feel so inclined...... Oh, and anyone hear from Tommy? Tried calling him tonight, his phone is still off. I knew he said he'd be ubobtainable for a while, but I'd like to know if anyone has any news on our badmin!

              • oh.... the fruitbat has plenty of stories about all the headaches who go to the guitar center.... but yes it's hard to get him...

btw. AIC original bass player Mike Starr wanted to jam with Tommy some years ago... to do somekind of Van Halen meets Alice In Chains kind of thing

                      • I think Ty did Soundgarden the best when I heard his version of Spoonman.... he nailed Cronell to a T.

but I also think it's very cool how he does The Black Crows.

could that be the next big vocal "thing"? Back in the 90s everyone was jutting their jaws & singing through their teeth trying to sound like Eddie Vedder (see: dude from Creed) or they were trying to sound like Layne Staley (check: dude from Life of Agony).

We could end up with a bunch of cut rate wannabe Warrels running about!

                            • THis could happen. I've been hearing quite a few Warrel-like singers..as well as Balow wannabes' for close to 10 years now.

You know whenever a singer has a distinct style when others try to cop it. Not many wannacop Ripper's style..because well..because it's a style that's he copped..duh! That would be like copying someone who copies Warrel..
