Gary !!! Now GSO is awesome. Bands always seem to put their worst song a video or single!! Just like DLR back in VH. I really like that record. But starting it wit Tattoo shatters my nerves. I hate that song.

I betcha alot of people completely wrote the band off when they heard that on the radio/video. I was cool with them until last year or so because Roth looks like an asshole. Look at Sammy..he's lookin' great. Joe Satriani hasn't aged a lick or running out of ideas whatsoever. But his arms are getting hairy-er-er. Now that's a Italian!

Symphony X is back. I prolly wasn't in right mood intially. Romeo insists on doing Disney-ish scores. Something he should tinker with on the side IMO!! Start the CD with trk #2 called Nevermore, and yes, it does kinds sound like said band. This is the most enjoyable album as a whole in their history. Expect a much more straight forward sound with LOTS of shred to melt faces. Even in a slowler paced songs. I'd LOVE to hear him and Jeff Loomis get together.

I was lucky enough to meet Russ Allen. I told him that he along with Jorn Lande were my favorite male clean singers. He instantly lit up and said they were working together...and they put out ALOT Russel/Lande albums mostly working with another amazing players in the big leagues/my faves ..Magnus Karlsson. Russel Allen is on. He seemed to be straining on the last couple. I think it was an attempt to be heavier. That's not his element. He's a great singer with a great voice..and that's back. There's couple songs I could do without, but even they're growing on me..this is a grower. Bands like Ghost, for example seem instantly catchy. That's good, sometimes that's bad. I seemed to get bored with alot of things that seems too catchy. But "Underworld" is prolly the catchiest, accessible albums they've done. Romeo is just sick..it's just insane the shit he's doing.

We seem to have our share Cooley, Loomis, MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Romeo ect are not slowing down. Lots of players, especially females it seems, check youtube! I think YT made things much easier to learn stuff, too easy maybe. Pushing your own boundries, creativity and recording it..well that's a HUGE payload in my book.

I've jammed with an old freind and gel well musically. I've tried to play with freinds before. Either it works effortlessy or not. Once I commit to something, I have to finish. That is the only prob. Music should flow without boundries. Sometimes I have bad days. I don't want to book a studio like that! No pressure..that's how it should be. so many here are recording GREAT sounding stuff on there own. I learned how to play while away. So that's important. I think.

I overcame alot of STOOPID restrictions, obstacles regarding picks, no picks, strings, amps, settings, everything. Simply by adapting and changing constantly. You never know where or when you're playing around people. They only excuse I have to suck is having an off day, or moment. That's a mindset, and that's all.

I keep practicing with broken string with a floyd. It's not impossible. My kid likes Drop D, So I tuned everything to fifths across the board. Use yor tuners as a whammy bar, like Gilbert. Bend behind the nut for crazy Sykes vibrato, non floyd. Harmonics are everywhere thanks Eddie. Dynamics too..thanks Uli. I'm playing with a metal pill container as a slide, because it was there...thanks ZZ Top. Your neck pup is an high octave note...I like that one.

HOLY SHIT. I threw a set of Slinky 8s on my Strat..it plays itself. Tuned to Eb thru Uber...wow!! I should have done this years ago!!

I'm buying more light gauge strings..it sounds crunchy as hell!! I'm going back to fresh days of Dejavu.

Before giving up or selling gear ect. Try something silly CHEAP as this. The Uber responded to this MUCH more than changing tubes.

I've seen Tommy post on the JCF facebook from time to time. I don't have him friended there to tell him to drop in but maybe someone like Joe has him hooked up.

I've been playing my Strat a lot lately too. This summer I spent a day out in my backyard scraping all the nitro off the neck, hitting it with progressively finer abrasive pads and then refinishing it with Tung oil. Now when I pick it up to play the neck feels all warm and natural. Just like my pud. I think that's why I like it.

I also set the trem up floating so I could pretend to be Jeff Beck. It actually shipped set up floating and I slammed it down. Letting it float really opened it up. I need to get noiseless pickups for it though. These stock ones sound fabulous at low gain, but as soon as you put so much as a tubescreamer in front of an amp with it, you are picking up radio free Tibet.

Radio free Tibet!! I know my strat does that with stock PAF pro. The '95's USA OFR classic has this treb boost. I always had it boosted since day one. But using lighter strings allowed me to put that tone knob center flat. Still some noise, but nothing like I had, especially under lights.. I always used that for definition with heavier strings tuned to D standard with 10s. I'll never go back to 10s again. Not with any locking trems.

Drew is that your awesome neck-thru natural Strat. I remember you posting that a while ago. I knew it was pricey. It that yours..that one? It looked awesome...Rosewood?

I really gassin' for a VY Malmsteen w/maple..like his main one. I'm going to buy one. I'll get used to the scalloped neck. I love the bite of SC pups..noisless ones. I love the classic look of them too. Something amazing when seeing so many of my early/later influences playing them Uli, Blackmoor, Jimi, to guys like Mike Wead, Hank Sherman. But I won't be sweeping anytime soon.

My son wonders why I refuse to do certain things. He knows I could learn. He does it now, which is cool. I always told him whenever something was popular, I always went the other way. My whole life. Never gave them another look after hearing Tattoo. I thought, cool for their fans that the band is still kicking around. No interest for me. Newest VH album I own on CD is 1984. I may have OU812 on tape, but couldn't tell you where it is. It is clearly missed a lot

Tommy's pretty active on Facebook. Mainly posting stunning sunset pics out his front door, just to drive all of his friends crazy about where he lives

HOLY SHIT Hellbro. WTF That strat truly rules. I want it. Nitro is supposed to wear/flake off, some fools don't know that. My's Strat nitro is cracking on my strat's maple neck. I like the way it feels and looks. If it gets to the point of hampering with playing. I'll have it stripped bare. WTF amp is that ..a Matchless? Love the retro look. To me that's all ya need. You can grab and go with that strat and that combo and play anywhere you wish...fuggums. But if that was my strat I would put a pearloid pickguard on it. It's screaming for one with that flame...it would just pop! Back in the early 90's I had to wait over a year for a pearloid gaurd on my '95 USA FR Classic. The guy at Fender LOVED the way it looked and ask me if I'd mind if they can do this on strats. I just said..sure. I'll be damned, that year they were putting pearloids on USA's.. Imports..shit tons. I was like WTF. He signed the back of my original gaurd and ordered one from chandler that would fit perfectly using my guard as a stencil. It was worth the wait. Then I saw Mike Wead with my exact guitar a year later. That was awseome. He's my fave in both King's camp..MF and Kind Diamond. I'll take him over. Denner/ Sherman/LaRoque anyday. Nothing angainst Andy I love him..not nearly as much as Wead. He's the man! I have everything those guys did. Mike Wead put some of the best solos in very young Candlemass. Vikstrom is his real name..His brother sang on their first, then many other bands. To me he's a more restrained , creative player from the Uli/Yngwie camp...influenced me ALOT.

I keep getting better w/ guitar, and I never been happier in my life. Life is great and you won't hear any complaints from me personaly. I'm breathing, and wanting the next second to be. See, that second just passed..and it was cool. As long as I tune out the downers on TV and never get pulled into their bullshit illusions. ex, politics. In that case I'll vote Putin.

BTW There was a time when I would be intimidated to play next to all our faves..the best. Not anymore. I'll hold my own and then some! I want to hand Jeff's ass to him, then give him a hug for making me do it.

The amp is a Fender Excelsior. It's a pretty clean amp. Takes pedals well but gets a little farty cranked all the way up. I bought it when I grabbed the guitar, they gave me a great price when I bundled the two of them. I keep it at the band's practice space for when I don't feel like hauling the Axe FX, midi controller and monitor with me.

I'm likely going to replace the pickups with Kinmans (Gary Moore used them in his Strats at times) and I'll probably get a new pick guard so I can keep the stock one handy if I ever want to swap it back out quick and easy. I've been thinking of pearloid for the pick guard when I do this.

Wow..Very nice stuff drew. I think I have the amp thing covered. I think the AXEFX would be too much amp for me. My G-major can still blow me. For me it's just a tone squasher , noise gate, lead boost with a tad of delay. Other than that, it sounds like shit. The Marshall JFX-1 smokes it in tone.

I have my 6505+ for grab n go, and me Marshall rackumms to play with Maiden, Judas Priest..or Megadave.

But, if I play with Megadave. I'll take over Megadeth, and he can suck it. I'll punch him in the face..and fuck you!

Well I've been catching up on metal. Getting back in the loop. I'm VERY satified with my gear, tone, and playing. Except I do want a MINT/NEW Yngwie Strat. I'll always refuse to learn other's licks, but let them inspire me. Sure I'll post examples of the stuff I do. Maybe snippets here and there. Not as any lesson. That should be personal to muscians. My fave YT player for example is that Brazilian kid with his balls in the camera. Playing some cheap strat. Posted as insane guitar solo. He got like a billions hits now. That's a decade ago. That is woodshedding, and ORIGINAL, creative techniques that are musical. That's what I used to do on bass ..now on guitar.

Chris Broderick can copy anything, but he'll prolly be in a two guitarist band. Creative riffs and songwriting are not his strong points. So many amazing players just can't create excellent riffs. He humbled George Lynch intially. I know I slammed George Lynch, but dude has feeling, style, and sig all his own. That's most important. The players we love most and recognize by their cool slippery "sloppy" feeling. If it's too robotic, it'll lack style no matter how insane. Michael Batio is a freak of nature. But those old Nitro band sucks. He's strickly a solo guy. Ex, Lynch could easily been Ozzy's first choice in '81 ..Not Batio. Crazy FreightTrainwreck Coming! That makes sense for Nitro fans..are they're Nitro fans..no?? I didn't think so. But I'm a Michael Batio fan..!! Inspired me to play fast as I can with that stupid stylus pick. Well he prolly sold alot of dumb picks. Nobody used them. No I'm not buying a Broderick pick either. I stick it my mouth like a man...godammit. I do ALOT of tapping too. Not EVH style.
