It is rather funny that out of all the people the Catholic Church could have picked, they picked a guy that has ties to the Nazi Party. Lets not forget what the Catholic Church did or didn't do during WWII. Classic. And then make excuses for him like in the other "issues" they have had to deal with. He couldn't help it, it was manditory. You mean to tell me he was the only one qualified?

With all the bad press they have taken over the years, was that really the right move? Will that help build back their credibility? Really?

Anyone else find it funny that they replaced a Polish pope with a German one? I know I do.

Doesn't Georgy boy talk to god? If so isn't it reassuring to know that the man with the finger on the button probably believe all that revelations rubbish.
Fwopping, you know you want to!

It WAS mandatory; easy for you to brush it off, you've never lived in such a country as Hitler's Germany.

He was picked as Pope because he was close to John Paul II and seen as a Pope who will carry on in the same direction. He provides continuity.

The Nazi smear is a cheap shot by people predisposed to attack the Church. The Pope was no more a Nazi than anybody here, in his heart. He just didn't feel like getting himself and his family shot by refusing to join a required organizarion.

Well, didn't all Nazi Youth swear alliegence to Hitler? I'm sure they did. It's not a smear campaign, it's the truth. I'm sorry that all youth had to participate. I'm sure not all did, some left the country when that mainac took power. But it's not a smear campaign.

There were a lot of Nazi War Criminals that used the same defense, they didn't want to get shot. "Sorry, I really didn't mean to kill those 10,000 Jews, I was afraid I'd get shot if I didn't". I'm not saying he's a war criminal but that excuse is weak. Show me where the punishment was death for the entire family if the kid didn't join the Nazi Youth.

I'm just saying that will all the bad press the church has taken over the years, this was not a great choice. I'm sure there were others just as qualified to do the job, friend of John Paul or not.

I'm not anti-religion at all. I've seen good come to people very close to me through it. It's not my cup of tea but to each his own. But when orginizations do stuff like this, it kills me that they don't see that some will go after them for it. They make themselves an easy target. That's all I'm saying.

I just saw something on CNN saying these girls were getting welfare. Since the state would only recognize one marriage, all the other "wives" were considered single moms and got welfare by the ton.

                          Ain't America great?

Im sure the govt was a little gun shy to go in there after what Janet Reno did at waco. She made a huge mistake and Im sure no one wanted to repeat it. The whole freedom of religion issue too. Its sux that pervs can hide under that freedom. No bible ive ever read says its ok to rape little girls.

So automatically, it's a front to rape boys? So if I said being an athesist is just a front to be a trouble maker, or being a cop is just a front to force people around, or being a member of the Mormon church (not talking about the Fundamentalist nuts involved in this case) is just a front to have 20 wives, would you agree? Probably not, but that is the EXACT spin you put on it

I also have to agree with YD's second post. It happens EVERYWHERE. Is the Catholic Church singled out due to it being a Church? I would probably say yes to some degree.

Finally, yes .2% is a handful. I would like to see your argue otherwise. While .2% of Priests over a span of 50 years is still too many imo, you're going to be hard pressed to argue that as being more than a handful.
                              .2%?
                              huh?
                              of what?
where are you coming up with that number? millions of members? we're talking PRIESTS here, not parishoners. either you're intentionally mixing apples with oranges to confuse the issue, or you really have no grasp at all of the subject.

sadly, you are in such complete denial about this subject that you cannot carry on a logical conversation about it (and I'm sure it is this way with many catholics, not wanting to believe the truth about their church that betrayed them so horribly) . everyone else here gets my point about the direct complicity of the catholic church leadership in the raping of kids, and the extensive and organized coverup of those crimes, except for you. (so you might reconsider who looks like the idiot here).

good luck with your life, and I hope you don't have kids in the altar boy program.

oh, and CR, you DO know, don't you, that your Sunday offerings are directly going to pay off the victims of your church's sex abuse, right?

how can you give them a dime, knowing what they are doing with it?
