To think of some of the things I got away with in high school in the '80's. I had a pocket knife in my jacket on several occasions and one day, I actually carried a .22 rifle in a case from a buddy's car to mine. The press and law enforcement would have a field day with either of those today.

To be honest it makes me afraid to have kids, especially daughters. I remember watching something on court, or discovery, or something like that where a guy spent 15 years in prison for molesting children at a school. Turns out, all of the kids that testified had admitted after 15 years that they'd lied about it and that the guy never touched them. Those kids, now adults, some with with children themselves are completely and utterly afraid to even hug their kids for fear of being acused of molestation or abuse. One guy leaves the house when his daughters friends come over for fear of the same thing. Great freaking country we live in these days.

I truly fear being a parent one day.

              I hear ya Steve.

But it's like thinking too much about the possibility of a plane crash.

              You still need to fly.

And, hell, if there aren't some decent folks out there pumping out some good kids, we're leaving it up to the bastard factories in the projects to make all the new ones.

              I have 5 kids.

I'm only nervous, never scared for them.

The joys far outweigh the pain.

I completely agree and think that things have gone way too far. It's just like that one guy who was sued for someone getting injured on his property. The guy who sued him had broken into his house and burglarized it. When he was making his escape out the window he landed funny and broke his leg. The burglar won...

I envy you. I have two, and I'm scared for mine. I don't know if I can teach them to think for themselves in a system that is trying to beat or brainwash every independent thought and impulse out of 'em. Maybe it makes me a wuss, but I'm not sure I'm up to the task. Most parents I run into take the easy way out. Baa, baa, baa.
