Gear heads, need advice

Ok so lately i've been jonesin for my dream car. A '72 Olds Hurst cutlass 442.
I'm wonderin what a fair price for one say fully restored and mint. Would go for. I'm kind of out of this loop and have seen a few lately and its got me thinking again. With my settlement comin in soon. The money is already burnin a hole in my pockets.. lol
Anything i should know about too look for as a warning sign?

Bengal.. your quick. I did a search on ebay motors for it. and all i got was a few misc cars and a crap load of parts. The white one is close to what im lookin for. Altho maybe i have the year wrong. But it would have the dual hhod scoops and the dual stripes on the scoops. like this

They are sweet cars, no doubt.

I have no idea what they go for. But watching those Auto Auctions on the tele I'm always amazed at what those old muscle cars go for. I've seen some Mopars go for $750.000. Insane.

They are not making any more and they are dying every day. If you want one, I'd get one quick. At least 1972 was the "end" of the Muscle Car era, I believe it ended in 1971 myself. But that might help to keep the cost down.

But I bet you could pay upwards of $20,000 would be my guess for a nice one. That's just a guess though.

It would be fun for a Sunday drive. I wouldn't get one to be a daily driver.

At least you work in the area that has the cheapest gas prices in the area.
There was one on ebay that was bid up to 85,000 and the reserve wasn't met.

man that brings back the memories .... my first car was a 69 442. nothing like having a 455 big block with 4:11 gears for racing from gas station to gas station.

How long do you think it will take someone to realize that those have auto trans and a real 442 came with a Hurst 4 speed manual. At least I've never seen one with an auto trans. I mean 442, 4 speed 4 barrel, 2 exhaust.

i think i 67 auto-trans were available. mine was an auto. i just now remembered that i use to flip the cover on the air filter so you could hear when the secondarys kick in on that toilet bowl of a carb. i stll have knuckle scars from changing starters on that thing .... but at least you could.

wow what a wide range of prices. Anywhere from 10k to 45k.. hmmm i hope my settlement is nice. lol The only thing that has me worried right now is the gas prices. And it deffinately wouldnt be an every day car. It would be kept in the garage and driven only on nice weather days around town.

One thing to remember with those (this coming from a family friend with a hot rod '49 Ford) is you need to put premium in and it might still knock. You'll probably end up needing to put in lead with the fuel.

Lead is for the vavle seats if they haven't been replaced with the newer kind, he might need octave booster. Depends on the compression.

I am pretty sure there were tons of 442's built with automatics.
