I took a trip to South Dakota last weekend - there and back - almost $100, and my car gets 30-35 mpg. Nothing like PANIC DRIVEN commodity trading. I hope whoever the traders are that are forecasting oil commodities get what's coming to them.

I'm riding bike whenever I can now. I bought a coffee maker for my office so I don't have an excuse for not biking - "I need to stop for coffee...". Had to get my own though, cuz I can't stand that shit they try to pass off as coffee at work!

My wife's car was just paid for last month - we were looking forward to the extra money for the mortgage. It all went to gas because she has a shitty commute.

That's gonna make post-hurricane conditions that much more of a nightmare because people won't be able to run generators when power is out. The government should consider using part of the strategic petroleum reserve for national disasters as well, to disperse fuel for generators like they do MREs and water..

The military is able to use synthetic fuel derived from coal now anyway, just like the Germans did in WWII. Which makes the point that usable alternative fuel tech existed almost 70 years ago, so who the hell do they think they're fooling? The US has enough coal for centuries of use, we need to get on the stick.

But my main point is, since the military doesn't really have to have the SPR, let's utilize it for civilian emergencies. It's still strategic use in that we need to keep the economy going for national security reasons.

$4.12 here today. As I was filling my tank, a guy pulled in next to me driving a full size pickup and towing a 21' Triton bass boat. The tank on the truck is probably about 26 gallons and the tank on the boat is 53 gallons. He was pumping premium in b oth tanks. If both tanks were empty, that first fish was gonna be about $325 per pound!

I think the worst thing about this whole mess is that I can no longer squeeze out 1c worth of gas. Here I am at $59.99, with three Andrew Jacksons in my pocket and not a dime more, and I just can't help but give 'er one last pull. How does the story end? $60.06.....ARGH!!!
