Say what you will - it has been proven that it does save gas. I'm not for it either, but I will say that I have slowed down to the speed limit or slightly under. I have seen a noticeable rise in mileage. Driving "like an old lady" does have its +'s.

My point exactly - you took it upon yourself to reduce speed, thus increasing your mileage. Most people who are intelligent will do this on their own without the government withholding highway funds from the states until they reduce the speed limit to 55. It won't matter anyway, as those who are going to speed will do so whatever the posted speed limit may be.

Here in Phoenix, they have photo radar all over the place - including some on the 101 freeway. Lowering the speed limit would create an enormous cash cow for the local governments.

That's photo radar is a whole other thread. There are a few here on major intersections but that's about it. Living in the sticks is good sometimes.

A whole buch of House Democrats have reportedly heard enough from their constituents that they're ready to sign up for new drilling offshore & on federal lands but Pelosi is blocking votes on all energy-related matters for fear of having to publicly fight amendments to allow drilling. So they're actually doing something: ducking the issue in hopes of gaining political advantage while the people suffer. Typical.

I'm hoping you're right. I've noticed that I get a little less annoyed when I'm not in a BIG DAMN HURRY to get places... Add to it that when I'm not driving fast, things are much less demanding/intense. Maybe there's something to that. Of course stupidity will always exist.

I don't get it. Didn't they lower the speed limit when gas was in short supply? Gas is not in short supply right now. The price is just too friggin' high. Can't we decide to drive a little slower on our own? I know I have slowed down a bit and I am driving a lot less. As someone said before, it sounds like they are just trying to make it look like they are doing something about this crisis, but are really doing nothing.

In the late 70's when gas went through the roof, there was a shortage.

Now gas is going through the roof and there is NO shortage.

I'm surprised more people are not pissed about that point.
