Hey, doing nothing seemed to work last time 'round Anything they might do will have nil effect for years - as in, after their careers in politics are done. In politics, a longview is not attractive. Politics is all about perception and right now drilling looks good to all us shit heads trying to make ends meet. "Hell, sign me up for more atrocities if they will shrink my bills." I know more than a few people that felt that way about Iraq leading up to this war, as if destabilizing the middle east wouldn't drive up prices just like it... always does.

I feel like this whole crunch has been looming for years, waiting for a time when it could be exploited politically and economically. Here it is and now we've got hundreds of asshats who bullshit for a living telling us scores of different reasons for the mess, different versions of reality. Fuck humanity's short life span, shorter memory and pussy attitude about changing the status quo. Stupid, angry little bitches...

        • The 55 MPH limit helped in the 70's when most cars were boats and only had a 3 speed transmission. Most cars now have overdrive and fuel injection and thier best gas mileage speed is well into into the 60's.

              • Check out this shit. Bossier City's Horseshoe Casino bought 10,000 gallons of regular gas at a local station and offered it to 1000 customers for $1.49 a gallon. Each customer was limited to 10 gallons and was required to have a Horseshoe Total Rewards Card and they must pay cash for the fuel.

Morons waited hours for the gas, not to mention the thousands of dollars the city had to spend by adding additional police force to monitor the promotion.

                  I totally disagree....

I have been hypermiling in my 2000 Neon.... and not even tailgating and I increased my mileage from 25mpg to 34mpg if I stay under 2200rpms on the tach.

On my Honda Valkyrie.. if I hammer it like most people drive I get 25mpg. If I drive 10 miles over the speed limit I get 30mpg. If I drive the speed limit I get 35-40mpg.

On my Nissan Sentra with an automatic and the 2.0 twin cam motor with overdrive I increased my mileage from 29mpg highway to 34mpg just by staying below 60mph which is right around 2K on the tach.

Good lord! And I thought my Rocket III was bad @ 30 MPG (it has one speed: wide flat open).

                      • One summer I had a long commute (45 minutes each way, all highway), so I decided to do an experiment.

                        (2003 Ford Focus ZX3, 5-speed manual, 2.0L Zetec)

                        65-70mph = 32mpg

                        55-60mph = 37mpg

I think the car was rated at 34mpg highway.
By the end of that summer I was laughing at all of the SUVs whizzing past me at 80.

                        • 30 in our Toyota Corolla driving around country back roads. I think it uses less gas than our lawn tractor Could get more with a tuneup and some new spark plugs/plug wires. Our Suzuki which can barely get 20 mpg is pretty much been turned into a rough weather/hauler. The daily drivers are the Toyota and our 25mpg Mitsubishi Outlander. The Mitsu could get even better if it was driven in manual mode.

                          • I've resorted to riding the bus to work. Monthly Pass=25 bucks. Gas driving to and from work was averaging 50-60 bucks a week.

                              • Gas has dropped below $3.00 a gallon here in North Louisiana. I guess they want people to be able to drive to the polling places!
