SoundTap stole my line input???

    SoundTap stole my line input???

    Win XP, SP2:
    I suddenly noticed I lost my option for recording on the line input!
    The "Line Input" doesn't even appear in the control panel for the Windows software.
    When I checked the options in Control Panel, Sound, it showed something
    called SoundTap as one of the recording devices. WTF is that?
    I recently installed Winamp, and also joined Soundclick. And installed something to convert WAV's into MP3's. But I have no idea which one of these screwed around with my audio options.
    Bottom line, I uninstalled SoundTap, and rebooted, and now neither Soundtap or the Line In option shows up in the recording contoller.
    I noticed this forst when trying to run N-Track, then Audiorack didn't see it, then went to the standard Windows Mixer, and it doesn't show up.

    Who stole my Line In, and how do I get it back?

      Let me rephrase this.
      "Line Input" has disappeared.

      I rebooted.
      No change.
      Tell me what to uninstall, or what registry entry to go after.

      I still have old ATI stuff I can't seem to kill. And I'm running an Nvidea card.
      Radeon sux, but that's a whole other issue.

        Try Control Panel > Add Hardware > Yes I have Already Connected The Hardware to my Computer and see if anything shows up. I can't imagine it recognizes your soundcard but not your Line In.

          Go to your control panel under "sound" options and check in there and make sure you "line input" isn't muted.

            Wait...an Icon showed up on the right side of my taskbar that I haden't seen before.
            Media Coder. Did this come with Switch or something?

              Line input shows up in the Windows media control, it does not show up
              in the Recording control. Something hijacked it.

                I did that, after uninstalling SoundTap (Whatever the hell THAT was).

                  Um, ever try four things at once, and not sure what fixed it?
                  Well, I uninstalled a component that "Switch" installed, then I rebooted, and just for grins, I checked my bios.
                  Well, all of the settings I had in there were in default mode. The internal soundcard was set to "auto", but somehow Windows wasn't reporting it to be there. I have a seperate PCI card. So, It may have been a conflict, that Windows just wasn't seeing.

                  Go figger.

                  I'm getting a Mac next time.
