Hey, I'm sure! Big city dwellers think they're the center of the universe! Which doesn't change the fact that many cops in smaller towns are still wanna-be Marshall Matt Dillon/Wyatt Earp bullies with badges.

Guy I work with recently got a speeding ticket in a very small town. Come to find out, this small town had been on 60 Minutes for being one of the worst speed traps in the country, paying their officers on comission. Nowadays, they attempt to keep a lower profile by not issuing official "speeding" tickets, but rather "failure to comply with traffic laws" tickets. This does several things. These tickets have no points value, so are not reported to the state (and thus, not traceable by 60 Minutes). The fines are regulated locally, so what would have been a $70 speeding ticket is now a $250 violation. And of course, a "failure to comply" charge is far more difficult to beat, as it is not solidly quantified.

He's asked for a jury trial and a change of location for the trial.

My experiences with cops has been that there are plenty of good people and plenty of assholes and a small number of crooks. Pretty much just like the rest of society. One thing, the ones doing the lame jobs (like bicycle cop duty at the shopping mall) are pretty much 100% dickheads - which is probably why they got shopping mall duty.

My experience with cops is, most of them are good ones. There is some jerkoffs and major douches. But not in a way that really involves the public. I'm talking in-house. The good ones stay together..the few assholes stay together..and the douches weed themselves out..good riddance.

Truth is, most of the assholes and douches..about 50% take promotions and become bosses. They make the perfect "yes men" for the Mayor and his admins. The good guys remain as black and white pawns. The Bosses make it hard for them to advance because they are the workers and bring the stats. Nobody expects much from assholes or douches. This causes many cops to become cynical and keeps moral low. That DOES affect the public! Inner city Cops with 8+ years stuck in the zone car for political reasons can change what was once a naive, kind hearted rookie into a cold , tired, burned out, cynical bastard. But, Those are the ones that make great bosses, because they know the drill and remember where they came from. While lazy assholes and douches slip and slide there way into cushy "office bitch" jobs, and study for promotional exams. These assholes then dictate rules and give orders to those MUCH more qualified. This becomes the makeup of our administration. Causing good districts and departments to literally implode. Mayor Mike White was very good for dividing our department by race, and causing two officers, one black, one white to commit suicide. Our current mayor Frank Jackson is even worse but he's not as blatant about it.

I could go on about this forever..I could write books. Pure honesty that would piss people off on both sides of the coin. I really don't want to do that. No matter what I say, even here..I'm biting my lip...HARD!

That's what I'm saying. The majority of the cops in this country are not big city cops, but have the same cool cars and big guns. So they just ride around and harass people. Like I told one to his face when he stopped me for an out tail light at 2:30am after I'd just worked sixteen hours: the problem isn't my tail light, it's that you have nothing to do. Wish I had such a cake job.
