I had this same problem with some of my own guys. They would treat average people at the airport like they were ganbangers in the hood. Problem was, they never worked the hood. I worked the hood for too long..it's a fuggin' culture shock , and you have to make some adjustments!!!!

Yes, the guy is probably pissed at his life and how it turned out. I'm sure at one time he thought he was going to play professional football or some kinda shit like that. And now he's a cop and he's pissed that he doesn't make more money than he does. Departments all over the United States are filled with dudes just like him.
My take is even though the dude doesn't deserve respect, the badge does. I've went to jail a few times in my youth for having nothing but a smart mouth. I use to mouth off like a mofo and it got me jailed a few times on charges that I wouldn't have had to face if I'd have just kept my mouth shut. That's where the respect should come from. Respect because this guy can throw you in jail and fuck your life up for a short period of time.
As for the First Amendment, I'm not sure if that covers conversations with a police officer. I tell my kids to be quiet all the time, I don't think I'm denying them their constitutional rights.
But even with the First Amendment, you can't yell FIRE in a crowded movie theater.

Honestly, that douche makes me sad. I swear, guys like that made my job hard as fuck..people don't like police because of assfucks like that. who could blame them! I hate cops like that!
All I can say is I met more than my share of people that hated cops. My dealings with them changed some of their minds..well, until they bump into Officer Fuckstick again. Hopefully they still remember me..and remember that there is good and bad in all walks of life.
If I was that kid's father..my kid would have a red ass..and I'd go after that dickhole. What, you think that never happened before??!!! But I can get away with it..most people can't.

Yeah, I know..In fact my kid called me "dude" once...ONCE!
I had to remind him that friends, girls, people can come and go like the fuggin' wind. You only have one father! Sadly, that's not the case for alot of kids..and maybe not this kid. But, his friends knew..they told him to STFU. Well, they learned that somewhere and maybe he learned..even if the cop is wrong.

I use to skateboard religiously, and whenever a cop asked me to get off my board, I would. I hated it when my friends would be assholes and skate away, or tell them to fuck off. If a cop is being respectful to you, be respectful to him. If he's being disrespectful to you, put up with it because cops can pretty much do whatever they want. In this kids case, the cop was abusive though.
Bah, I'm sure in his defense he was actually fighting crime rather than giving worthless parking tickets.
