  • VIDEO: Celebrities pay thousands of dollars for collectible vintage rock band shirts

One of my biggest pet peeves is a person wearing a shirt depicting an artist they don't even listen to, but rather wear it as a fashion statement.

Check out this Forbes video covering the apparently overhyped value of vintage rock shirts and celebrities who, in my eyes, inflate the price and create a demand:

Last time I was in LA on Melrose Avenue I saw a shop that sold "vintage", ie used, clothes. I saw hanging up a Type O Negative "Green Man" shirt that looked sweet. I had the clerk take it down and looked at the price. $250. No shit, $250. I asked who would pay that and she said something like rich people wouldn't bat an eye paying that much for a used t-shirt. Fuckin' idiots.

I have two Iron Maiden long sleeve concert T's I put away...an '82 NOTB and '83 POM. Both are in nice shape but are paper thin and could tear very easily.

I also have a white zombie t from their 1st tour..that one held up ok..but I still won't wear it.

I view it as a double edged sword. I'm glad that metal is "cool" again..for me it always was. I've seen many young people wearing metal shirts..and know damn well they couldn't name a single song from the bands they're wearing.

but what's better?..THIS or that FUBU wearin' asscrack epidemic a few years back. IMO..this is the lesser of the evils.

I've got an old Metallica tee from around AJFA. IIRC, it has lady liberty on the front and the faces of the band members on the back. My sister bought it for me, knowing that I'm a metalhead & listened to Megadeth and stuff. But not being a 'Tallica fan, I've never worn it. Anyone want it? It can be yours for only $250
            Hail yesterday

                  Times have changed!!!

The "Rock T-shirt" was one of the funniest scenes in "Billy Madison". Adam Sandler returned to his high school where he once ruled! Pulled up in his Trans Am with Billy Squier's "The Stroke" blastin'. He gets out of the car to proudly sport his Reo Speedwagon T shirt..just to be greated with "nice shirt" and "fag"..

Today, that wouldn't even be considered a joke at all.. That was the same year Stewart wore a Winger T shirt on Beavis and Butthead.

Skorb is right! There will ALWAYS be posers and they will be the first to hop on the latest trends! Remember..ALL trends have expiration dates and will reveal how foolish it was in a few short years.

Some things are timeless no matter what changes..and true metal is one of them. In fact, I've already outlived JCF members that LOVED those trends. They butted heads with me over them at the time...ummmm they were wrong!

So "the poser" hath walkethed amoung us!

                    I admit it - I sold out...

Listed both my "Kill 'Em All For One" shirts on ebay a couple years ago - brought $175 each, from some dude on Madison Avenue...my Ride The Lightning tour shirt only got about $100...holes and all!

Now I wish I had bought more for $10 - $15 I paid at the original shows!
Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

I'm going to need to go through my boxes. I still have an Accept jersey from the Balls To The Wall tour. I have a Journey jersey from the Escape tour. I have a ZZ Top Jersey from the "Legs" tour. I have an old SOD Speak English Or Die shirt. And a tour shirt from the Abigail tour by King Diamond. But a dog got to that one so it has an extra hole or two. I might be sitting on a fortune.

I had one of those until about 6 months ago when I tore it into shreds to polish my car with. In fact, that's where all my old tour shirts went to when they got too old and nasty. (OK, OK, and when I got too fat to get into them)
I still wear my Slayer "Reign in Pain" tour shirt on the beach, even though it is more hole than shirt, it just sits right.

Now, I wonder if anyone wants to buy some genuine 1980s underpants, as worn by a true headbanger (me), complete with skidmarks?
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

                          I nearly broke her back
