I know that some of the JCF membership has had problems in the past with law enforcement officials, but I have the deepest respect for their hardwork and dedication in what is basically a "thankless" job. Yes, there are rotten apples within the police force, but that can be said about numerous professions.
Most of us have seen at least one episode of the TV show COPS, but now a new series focuses on people who have "lead foot disease." Over the years, I've received my fair share of speeding tickets and I can honestly say, I deserved every damned one of them. My dad taught me to always be polite and courteous and from my own experience, many times the officers have cut me HUGE breaks.
Now, back to the new show SPEEDERS. I have seen two episodes and not one single city or state official has been unprofessional in handing out tickets to speeders. However, unless I missed it on a bathroom break, every single person charged with speeding has been verbally abusive to the policemen. Can you imagine what it would be like to hand out 20 tickets over the course of a day and being verbally harassed at each encounter? After all, whose fault is it when
a. you're 36 miles over the posted speed limit
b. you don't have your license, registration, proof of insurance
c. expired tags
d. etc, etc, etc
Think about how a policemen feels the next morning after a day of verbal abuse from motorists. I don't know about you, but I'd damn sure hate to be his first "stop" of the day!
Before I forget, did anyone see the chick on the Suzuki 1200 who was stoped for doing 67 in a 35 zone? She was a smartass from the moment she opened her piehole. When the officer politely asked if she had any recent speeding tickets, she laughed and said "yea, 102 in a 55 on **** highway." She then said "what happened to the days when women could flash their boobs or flirt their way out of a ticket?" Newsflash: No one wants to see a cow!
So, in conclusion to this long winded rant, if you speed and feel the need to get mad, wait till the officer drives off and then slap yourself up side the noggin! Wasn't his foot on the accelerator.
