My idea was a three-strike policy. Get divorced three times, no more marriage licenses for you. You obviously don't understand the concept.

I've got an uncle who, when I asked him how many times he'd been married... thought about it for a few seconds... and said, "You know, it's either nine or ten times." Some people just need to be stopped.

    • Should I start talkin' about my PP now..?

I see there was topics on pudology being discussed.

My pud is very facinating..colored in many shades of earth tones..and there's even rings around it..just like Saturn..and it's a ball point. It is the 10th or perhaps the 12th wonder of the world!

Nowhere did I say I never did anything wrong. I think we all know better than that. :ROTF:

He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah largely because those cities practiced homosexuality; that's where the word "sodomy" comes from.
Thank you for making my point! Well done. God supposedly had his followers destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. So under what circumstances is murder sacrilegious and when is it acceptable? So if you truly believed in the Bible you should be murdering homosexuals.

Then you are a poor excuse for a Christian. You should be smiting these homos, not befriending them. I am being sarcastic of course, but it illustrates my point perfectly. These people are commiting sacrilege yet you look the other way and still care for them. Given that, why is it that you would deny them the right to marry?

That's a crock. Christian teachings are equally clear on many other sacrilegious acts that Christians ignore completely.

This is not a matter of Christianity - it is a matter of Christians using the Bible as means to justify their petty intolerance.

Honestly, what the so-called feel about the word marriage means very little to me. I did my time putting up with their drivel every week. The key thing I learned is they are a bunch of hypocrites who use ancient poorly translated books to further their various agendas.

          • God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah himself, he just told his followers to get out of town and don't look back. Lot's wife disobeyed and became a pillar of salt.

As an apparent ex-Christian, you should understand the concept "love the sinner, hate the sin". And Christians hold no monopoly on hypocrisy; in fact every human is hypocritical when they do something that they want to do knowing it's the wrong thing to do.

A question for those with faith.

Do you really believe that story that I quoted from Lerx? That it happened that way and that a woman turned into a pillar of salt?

              I'm curious is all.

EDIT: If you do, that's cool in my book. I'm just interested to hear what people of faith say about stories in the bible like that. That is all. Not looking to drag someones faith through the mud.

              • You go guys! Tim and Rich battling it out over religion on a thread about homosexuality. I'm digging it so far!

Hey, I don't want to add fuel to the fire or anything, but I believe in the fucking easter bunny. Anybody got a problem with that?

I believe in God and that Jesus Christ was His son who came to save us. As far as the Bible, it is the work of man, translated, edited and interpreted over thousands of years. I believe there is a lot of historical fact interspersed with interpretations and distortions.

I believe that God did destroy Sodom and Gomorrah with His power. What happened to Lot's wife was probably an effect of not following safety instructions. Was she turned into salt, literally? Who knows?

To me, whether the Bible is all literal truth or not doesn't really matter as long as the greater truth of God's existence and Jesus' sacrifice are true. Humans being fallible and corrupt, it's no surprise that distortions could enter into the written works of humankind on the subject. It would surprise me if that HADN'T happened, humans being what we are.

I was raised Catholic, got very pissed at God when my father died when I was 11, and stopped going to church at 16 because of the hypocrisy I saw in some of the people who attended my church.

Later in life I came back to church because I saw good people and a lot of good that was also done in the church. I never stopped believing in God, but did stop believing in the church because of the negative side I saw.

But I have seen the positive side as well, and especially since my homeland was destroyed and Christian churches have sent a million volunteers to help people rebuild here. They walk the walk for love of their neighbors.

We needed their hlep, because the government has dragged its ass nonstop since Katrina, and the US Senate voted down an all-peril clause that would force insurance companies to actually insure against wind and water damage. So most of our secualr fellow US citizens apparently don't give a fuck.

Let's see what happens in the Midwest when the insurance companies fuck all those people as well. Short-sighted to refuse to help your neighbors a few states away because it's not your problem today.

But Christians from all over this country came to help us. sure, there were volunteers who weren't from church organizations - maybe 5-10% of them if that.

I see Christians who walk the walk; you're seeing something else. We all have different experiences.

That's cool man, I get what you are saying.

                      Thanks for the answer.

Yes, and the irony there is that the bill was opposed by YOUR OWN SENATORS. Go figure. At least they're going to establish a commission to study the issue further. Those commissions sure are helpful I reckon.

Yeah, the rest of just donated millions and millions of dollars. We suck. Oh, and the many millions from tax money that was misused by the Department of Homeland (Non)Security that our wonderful Christian leadership put in place. But all that money is no big deal either.

Just because not all of us hopped on a school bus and drove to New Orleans singing Amazing Grace doesn't mean we didn't do our part.

Besides, it's the Christian radicals that say y'all had it coming. God was sending you a powerful message.

no problem here. Although I do pause for thought before I eat one of the brown, foil-covered pellets he leaves lying around my house Mar/Apr each year. But I get over it...

First of all, I live in Mississippi - the place that actually got hit by Katrina. New Orleans was flooded by broken levees. Our Senators pushed the all-perils bill, I don't know what Louisiana's did. I know they asked for many times more Federal money than we did though. But I'm simply talking about insurance companies actually having to insure against real hazards. Apparently 79 Senators said no to that, after the House passed the bill. Again, the recent Midwest floods bring the issue back up. Are insurance companies just organized crime then, shaking us down and never having to pay?

Hey, those who donated, we're grateful for too. But the people who put their lives on hold for months or years to come physically help us rebuild, who've helped clean up and repair and rebuild thousands of homes, were almost all from Christian groups. You'll understand if we're even more grateful for that.

As far as the Christian radicals, again, that's about like saying the Muslim radicals speak for all Muslims. Is that what you're saying, Tim? I don;t think those people were among the million who came down here and got dirty in shitty hot weather to help rebuild homes and buiold new ones. I think those were the good guys.

What happened to make you so bitter, exactly, Tim? Whatever it is, I'm sorry for your personal trauma, but all of Christianity didn't do it to you.
