Truth, in matters of religion, is simply the opinion that has survived. -Oscar Wilde
So... true.
We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart. -HL Mencken
Religion consists of a set of things which the average man thinks he believes and wishes he was certain. - Mark Twain
All religions are founded on the fear of the many and the cleverness of the few. -Stendahl

I will keep my beliefs and comments to myself. I have elaborated more on religion than Christ himself...well I'm 11 years older. I will not indulge for the sake of being redundant. I have beaten that horse into a mushy pulp..I'm retired!
There is nothing on this thread on the topic of religion that is new, interesting, or remotely enlightening..its boring! It may be new to some newer members, so I guess these topics will ensue.
A piece of advice..save your time and energy on debating religion and do a "search", hit the search button and type in some key words. Its been covered here MANY times before..and prolly more amusing if I'm involved. I eventually learned it wasn't fun to pee on a wet rope...or on someones parade. Especially if they're your friends.
Treat others how they treat you and you'll do just fine..trust me. Know your role on the food chain..and establish that with others. I have inherited/cultivated a pack leader mentality my entire life. I am the alpha male in ALL my circles,..until I decide to pass the torch. My father surrenderd that to me due to his age and physical abilities just like any other pack. We are no different than any other creature when it comes to pecking order with herd or pack instincts. Besides matter what faith or lack of, people will do what they wish...they always have and always will. We will NEVER change no matter how hard the effort! Most efforts are just a illusion of righteousness either to one's self or others..people love to wear the good guy badge.
Respect those who respect you no matter what creed, race or gender. If they disrepect you..Fuggums!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Bengal,
The quote below is Rupe's post right after you asked the question, which answers your question and also the question about the figurative meaning of the 7 days of creation.
Originally posted by Rupe View PostOne school of thought on that is that the "7 days" of creation are not literal 24 hour days...they are figurative meaning only a certain period of time. For example, animals were not created in 24 hours...they were created and allowed to evolve over many years. Same with the heavens and earth, etc. Many believe that the 7th day when God rested is still upon us.
It has also been said that god was interactive in those days because he needed to be to spread his word. Once the word was out and Jesus died upon the cross, there was no longer a need for him to interfere...man had his directions.
I think the best anyone can do is research these things for themselves, while remembering that our limited human intelligence very well likely cannot always comprehend the complexities of divinity. Just because certain things don't seem to make sense, don't be too quick to dismiss them without delving deeper. Relying on what "seems" right is a fools game in both science and religion.Ron is the MAN!!!!

My friend was a state trooper for about 16 years. His wife, (now x-wife) at the time told me about something that messed him up pretty bad. There was a bad crash of a pickup pulling a horse trailer. The thing rolled. The horse was f'd up beyond belief. My friend had to dig deep inside himself, being an animal lover, to draw his pistol and put that horse out of its misery.
Now, imagine how hard it must have been for that 13 year old to do what he had to.Scott

Hey K, sorry I missed this thread earlier, but I have another site I spend a lot of time modding, as you probably know
My wife and I recently saw a documentary on kids with gender identity disorder, and as parents it was absolutely heartbreaking to watch. Your heart simply broke for those kids, living with shame, and fear, and confusion; either hiding from the world all the time or facing ignorance and discrimination of the worst kind. It really was an eye opener.
Anyway, I'm glad you've getting to a point where you are feeling some peace within yourself, and for yourselfCourtesy, Integrity, Self-control, Perseverance, Indomitable Spirit

Our Senators pushed the all-perils bill, I don't know what Louisiana's did. I know they asked for many times more Federal money than we did though. But I'm simply talking about insurance companies actually having to insure against real hazards. Apparently 79 Senators said no to that, after the House passed the bill. Again, the recent Midwest floods bring the issue back up. Are insurance companies just organized crime then, shaking us down and never having to pay?
Hey, those who donated, we're grateful for too. But the people who put their lives on hold for months or years to come physically help us rebuild, who've helped clean up and repair and rebuild thousands of homes, were almost all from Christian groups. You'll understand if we're even more grateful for that.
As far as the Christian radicals, again, that's about like saying the Muslim radicals speak for all Muslims. Is that what you're saying, Tim? I don;t think those people were among the million who came down here and got dirty in shitty hot weather to help rebuild homes and buiold new ones. I think those were the good guys.
What happened to make you so bitter, exactly, Tim? Whatever it is, I'm sorry for your personal trauma, but all of Christianity didn't do it to you.
Anyways.. that happened 2004, I just got my rates finally lowered again this year. That, is nothin in comparison to what happened in Kat and the floods here...those are things that could also have been completely prevented in severity. Same with the bridge collapse here in MN.
Years ago...when Bush first took office and I started on this board,... I firmly believe that the firefighting capacity of this country to be able to battle these fires that cost us billions each year in the west should be improved and beefed up considerabley. Those planes were failing in mid air! Imagine what we could have done if we had invested as much in our own country as we have invested in going into Iraq as we did and when we did.
I totally agree with Rich, the board does and always has had a major anti-christian, against God based religion slant over the years..which, as cool as a place it may be and as much time and information I have contributed as well as taken from this place does not make up for the dog eat dog and F-the big guy secular elements. It is the primary reason why I do not support it as a platinum member and have stopped hangin as much here altogether.
Really, I applaud you Rich, I was almost ready to message you to say don't bother. I know we've had our run in's but its good to see you are well and still keepin your faith thru the winds and waves.
Anyways.. this is off topic. I'm hopefully done. It'll be an interesting year and election for sure. Whoever gets into office will face incredible changes and challenges occuring-and so will we as a nation.Last edited by charvelguy; 07-10-2008, 06:19 PM.

in all honesty it's exactly WHY we don't normally allow religious threads as well as political. It serves no purpose usually other than to alienate people. My belief has always been everyone should feel welcomed and comfortable enough to be able to get involved. When those types of threads portray a certain hostility people don't want to get involved.
We have all types of religious backgrounds as well as athiests... it should be fun regardlessDon't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~
