i believe that people should be allowed to say whatever the hell they want to say in a public forum.
and people should be allowed to have whatever public siggy they want.
offensive? do you know how many sigs i could take offense at on this whole damn board, being a woman? HAHAHAHA! ridiculous.
if people get offended for what is shared in public that is their own personal problem and maybe they would feel more comfortable somewhere else.

nobody is forced to read anything here. and one certainly does not have to be involved in any heated discussion so maybe i just don't understand the problem too well. ? hellifiknow.

Its called the yahoo fight room. is that what you want this to become? like K said, its a guitar forum not a free for all, there are plenty of other places for people with an attitude to go blow off some steam, making some bullshit HTML, running booters, bots etc.

Rich, where in this thread have Christians been bashed? Seriously, I challenge a lot of the assertions you make and I've referenced scripture to support my points and note what I consider holes in yours. I don't believe I or anyone else has been hostile towards any actual Christians. I have my reservations about a lot of what I've seen organized religions do and when it comes up I tend to chime in.

This may surprise you but I have absolutely nothing but love for good people whether they are Christians, Jews, random heretics, or Martians. In fact, if I had to pick a team, I'd be on the Christian team because my beliefs are for the most part in line with the current trends of Bible interpretation. I just don't associate anyone's faith with any sort of expected behavior because I've had all sides s how me good and bad.

Tim, I've pointed one example out to ~K~ already, but I don't want to drag that out anymore; the fighting is really getting on her nerves and that was not my intent.

I'll restate my intent with introducing this: It was to make a statement of fact about the environment in which activists are trying to legalize gay marriage.

The word "marriage" is important to Christians - Catholics in particular consider it one of the sacraments, or sacred rites.

So that means entrenched resistance to the idea of gay marriage from Christian and especially Catholic voters. There are 62 million Roman Catholics in the US and we are the MINORITY Christian denomination compared to the total of Protestant denominations in the country. A high percentage of Christians are voters as well.

So, with that in mind, are the activists sold on the WORD "marriage" , or do they want the LEGAL RIGHTS that a marriage gives couples?

My feeling is that a civil union law would be easier to pass on a national level than a marriage law that would be opposed en masse by Christians.

That is ALL I initially wanted to say - that semantics could MAYBE be a way around a logjam of decades' standing.

Of course, it got out of hand and I participated in that too. But that was my goal here, a beneficial one and not a harmful one.

I'm not going to go back and quote what I feel are bashing posts, only to have you take them one by one and say "nope! I don't feel that's offensive". Offensive is in the eye of the offended, remember. That would serve no purpose, and again, I don't want this to escalate again.

I still think if you want the legal rights that gay marriage would provide, using the language of "Civil union" would achieve that sooner than using the term "marriage". I could be wrong and the language might not matter. But I see this being a long and contentious fight in the nation at large.

I think plenty of people can see that there's a bias, whether you want to admit it or not. I made a calm conciliatory post there explaining my initial intent and you want to get fired up again, fine. I'm done talking about it, and if you feel you need to hide the thread so people can't read it and draw their own conclusions, then do that.

The rush I get when I play my guitar and the sounds coming out of the amp are what I wanted to hear (or even a little more) is as close to a religious experience as I can handle any more.

I hope we can all swallow our aggression, or puke it up elsewhere.

it is a guitar forum, yes, but with a forum in the basement called "Non Jackson/Charvel Related Talk". it is a free for all zone down here in the pit. and being adults and being human it should be expected that we can all treat each other respectfully.
but that isn't always the case, which is why i understand that some policing needs to be done at times. all of this i said, but perhaps didn't word it well.

what i meant, and i understand how it could be mis-understood that i am condoning bashing (i'm not), is that people should be allowed to discuss whatever they want in a non-guitar related forum.

but i understand what you are saying. i do. i don't think this place should be some fight zone, and it isn't.
all i'm saying is that i find nothing wrong with people discussing whatever they want. that doesn't mean it can be done perfectly, hell, if it could this world would be a lot more peaceful.
i'm also saying that if people don't want to read things that aren't related to guitars and gear, then they don't have to come down here to the pit of non-everything.
