Trial - closing statements Monday

Well Mrs Tekky showed up for court today to see the case handed to the jury. I got a pm from Todd saying she is doing ok and they will call later. Here's hoping this guy gets the book thrown at him ..

Hey all! Thanks for the positive vibes. I think it went pretty well yesterday. The defense attorney quoted lots of wrong facts in his closing statement - and considering how attentive the jury has been the entire time - really making him look like an ass. They are going with the all the people who identified him are mistaked - there were like 10 different people that identified him as either being the rapist or having been around the homes at previous times. He even went so far as to actually say the stalking victims boyfriend at the time - now husband - was just flat out lying. The defense also says the police jumped to conclusions in identifying the defendant as the serial rapist.

I find it hard to believe that 10 different people, who according to the defense attorney, just picked some picture from the line up and all happened to pick the same picture. And I don't see to many smaller police departments that are going to just pick one of their own to pin something like this on. Especially when they checked into other suspects that no one identified.

I don't expect a verdict anytime soon - there are 35 counts that have to be decided on individually. 25 of the counts could carry up to life in prison based on the circumstances.

It's absolutely official - I have received phone calls from both the detective and a rep from the State's Attorney's office. He is guilty on all count - 35 total. His sentencing will be in August. I believe the judge will make the final say, but I'm not certain about that. I do know each of the 25 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault carries a mandatory minimum of 6 to 30 years. Circumstances allow them to add anywhere from 5 years to life for each count.
