        • I'll ask again for the newcommers.

What tour are you guys on this summer?

So far, only markD has answered that question.

Me? I won't be on any thank God. My touring life is hopefully over. It's not all it's cracked up to be fellas.

Not sure how this applies to the conversation at hand. I suppose if somebody only listens to Chopin and Rachmaninoff with a pinky in the air, talks about it incessantly, and doesn't have a clue about what they're listening to....I might see the analogy. Class warfare among hard rock/metal listeners? Personally, I get complete scorn 99.9% of the time--from musicians and non-musicians alike--when I tell them I like loud, aggressive music with fast guitars. Exactly who would a metal snob be trying to impress? Sorry, doesn't work for me.

People may have said the same things about Mozart.

I'm not defending Dragonforce with this statement. I can enjoy their music but I also realize it's not for everyone or every mood. I also understand when listening to it that it contains a lot of what i's call "Studio tricks" that would be difficult to pull off live. I've never seen them live but I wouldn't object to catching a show one day, just to see how well they pull it off. I have seen interviews with the guitar players and they did come across as guys who spent alot of time locked up in their rooms practicing.
Now they've come out of the rooms and discovered beer and women and they are hitting both hard.

                  • Comparing DF to Mozart is perhaps the funniest thing I've read this month.

I think some people here have trouble separating technical abilities with artistic abilities. Dragonforce is very high in the first, but severely lacking in the second. Li and Totman can play circles around me, but my songs are more interesting and my guitar tone is better. Dream Theater used to have a nice balance between the two, but have slowly been losing in the second. Symphony X started out with lots in the first, not so much in the second and have balanced it out on their latest album. Meshuggah just sucks :P

Making music with a computer is still composing. Beethoven was a fantastic composer, but could only really play piano. Should he limit himself to just writing for piano?

Oh and just to fall in line with the general tone of this thread.... Belgium is full of cheese-eating surrender monkeys, "Happy Hardcore" has to be the worst name for a genre of music, ravers are retarded, Bengal likes to argue, and pink text on a dark gray background is hard to read.

                      • I don't much like Dragonforce, but I wouldn't waste any energy flaming them or anyone who enjoys their music.

I always thought the knock on DF was that they use studio tricks to get their sound and speed, speeding up solos and beat replacing and quantizing all their drums. Other bands do the same kind of thing: Meshuggah (another love it or hate it band mentioned in this thread) have done albums with entirely artificial programmed drum parts. Yet, while the latter can play their songs live tight and precise, the former can not.
