  • look, some people don't like listening to math. i know i don't. i find meshuggah to be annoying and they give me a headache. their early stuff was better when they had a bassist and didn't play 8 string guitars.

i feel the same way about dream theater. they annoy me. too much technical crap.

dragonforce annoys me as well. i LOVE power metal, but i think their songs are too happy and some of the solos sound like they belong in a video game.

it's just music. some of you guys have hit pretty low. i just don't get it. if you think it sucks, ignore it. if you think somebody is a douche or an asshole, or whatever, ignore them. it's what most mature adults would do. you can't MAKE somebody agree with your opinion.

oh, and texting and the silly little abbreviations that are used are creating a whole new language...as an english teacher and a linguist i find it sad but interesting at the same time...
    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

I just finished dating a 9th grade English teacher (she is 29) and I was appalled at her constant usage of "OMG."

I'll give you the singer, the rest I blatantly disagree with.

As for new bands, that are infinitely more talented:

        Protest The Hero
        MindWalk
        Threat Signal
        Three
        Scar Symmetry
        Behold...The Arctopus
        etc...
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

        • GoR - Do those bands use "normal" timing, scales, and singing?

I've been looking for new metal and hard rock bands that do, but haven't found much.

            Hardly.

I've moved beyond that, I'm so tired of the same generic stuff over and over again. And that's not a 'shot' at anyone.

            Three are mindblowing.

            • I really don't want my mind blown, I just want stuff that's fun to listen to.

My favorite new CD is Whitesnake's Good To Be Bad.

              • Good, whatever suits you. Music is more to me than recreational background noise.

                • Got any links to this Three or any of them which at least have real singing (or no singing)?

Naming a band Three makes it really hard to find on YouTube!

                  • None of you have told me what tour you're on this summer.

I'm trying to figure out if it's envy or what.
                    I'm angry because you're stupid

                    • It's hardly background noise - it's just easier to get into.

i am 34 and it drives me insane. i have spent the last 8 years studying the decline of "american" english at the university for my doctoral thesis in liguistics. i have to say, that between the "dialects" of certain culutres in america and the invention of an almost complete written language in abbreviations, the changes in american english are exciting (from a "study" standpoint) but disgustingly appalling at the same time. america has become a land so focused on instant gratification that our younger generations have devised a way to "speak" with out saying complete words!!! THAT is sad...

my band has a 6 week tour in the works. it is our own, so i guess we aren't "envy" worthy!! but, hey, if we get enough dates ironed out, i'll let you all know where we'll be if you wanna come see us!!!

I always like checking out new stuff. Already know and like Scar Symmetry....didn't dig the others that I could find on youtube. Could you point us to vids for MindWalk? I had trouble finding them.

Edit: Been listening to the tunes on the Three web site. Amazing.

I would be interested in reading your thesis.
