SACRILIGE! I could loop that scherzo and listen to it non-stop from now until the day I die, and I'd love every second of it.

I'm glad he went deaf. He gave "heavy metal" and stadium endings to the masses, hundreds of years before the first rock band.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

    • Heavy metal definitely came from the Mozart Requiem

It's not that the 9th is bad, it's just not his best symphony. Or maybe I've heard Ode to Joy so many times that it's lost its impact.

The 5th though, that still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. It's just so....triumphant.

Any 'I don't want classical music' argument is NULL AND VOID, since you hinged must of your argument on the experience and expression of those emotions. Not trying to establish superiority here in any way, just trying to point you towards some music you might fall in love with, if you haven't already.
Obviously Beethoven kicks major ass. No one in the past 100 years is even in the same league as the big name Classical and Baroque composers. It's fun to listen to other stuff too though - "great" music is only great if you have "good", "OK", and "shit" music to make the comparison!

            • I put them and DragonForce together in the "OK" category. Technically proficient but basically "mood music". I just happen to be in a happy mood much more than a complicated angry mood.

                    • I'm not a fan of Dragonforce, but it has less to do with their music; I think their lyrics are singularly boring and stupid. All that "power of the dragon, let's go slay the dragon, ride the dragon into the sunset" stuff was ridiculous. Listening to the music did become a cumbersome experience after a couple of plays, though; a bit like Dream Theater, in my opinion. They're like musical candy; after a couple of plays, I'm sick of it. At the end of it all though, I quit listening to them because the lyrics put me off.

However, this thread is gold; there's some great stuff in here.

Good god, Bengal, that name came out of nowhere. I almost spewed my coffee all over my computer at that, settled for a scaled throat instead.

That seems like a pretty petty reason, really. I'm not a fan of the electronica style of music; but every once in a while, I'll hear something that sounds interesting. Rx is an example.

THAT is sad...
Well, part of it is the older generation who've forgotten that capitalization and proper spelling are key. I, American, English for example. I'm amused with all you college students/graduates who can't spell, punctuate, or write; I realize that it's not everyone's area of expertise, but you spend all this money to 'educate yourself' and can't put together a proper sentence. Before you write that thesis, check out Strunk & White's Elements of Style. It'll teach you more about writing than all your English classes.
As to the point you were making, it goes hand in hand with the decline of discipline and teaching responsibility to each successive generation.
Okay, I'm finished; I'll put the English-phile back in his cage.

Bingo. They don't take themselves very seriously. They're just out there having a good time and getting paid to do it.
