Citibank did that to me too. I went and bought stuff at 3 places within an hour, groceries, pet store, and office supply . by the time I got home they were calling (under 5 minute drive) and their bot canceled my card and they couldn't undo it. I fell your pain!

Wow, remind me never to get a Citibank card.

On a sidenote, I've been very satisfied with my Discover card, but it's only accepted in the U.S. I brought it to Canada on vacation once not knowing that only 1% of places accept it there and ended up having to use my wife's debit card to pay for things.

No bullshit there. Amex doesn't play games. They are on your side, every time, at least they have been for me & my fiancee. I think I told the story on this board once about the time my girl got a call from Amex saying, "Did you order $XXXX.XX worth of medical supplies and ship them to the Ukraine? No, we didn't think so. We'll take care of it." and that was the last she heard about it.

And the "for your protection" horse shit? YOUR protection? No, their protection. If someone fraudulently dupes your card and orders a ton of shit, how is that your problem? As far as I know it's not- You WILL have to fill out a sworn affidavit and go through a bunch of bullshit, but you are NOT on the hook for the fraud- They are. So they are doing it for THEMSELVES, not to protect you.

Eff Citibank. I know Amex costs a couple bucks a year, but you said you pay at the end of the month anyway- And they have cards you can carry a balance on too if you need to. They don't jam you with 1000 offers for cards cause I think their credit checks are a bit more stringent (not overly so however) but they don't screw you either.

I use my Amex for everything. My MBNA & CITI cards are only in my wallet because they keep the pockets tight & nothing goes flying out of it when I open it.

Hope it works out for you.

The people in Amex's fraud department actually have a brain.
And when someone stole my card info (raided my mail box), I had a new Amex card the next day, no questions asked.
It's the ONLY card I use.
The BS I went through with my Visa was insane.
That info was stolen as well... it took them a month to get me a new card and nearly 6 weeks to get my Debit card replaced.
            Complete BS.

Citi is in the shitter big time, financially. Huge sub-prime losses. They are nickle and diming every line of business, just to try and stay afloat. I'd guess that includes their credit card business, too. Don't be suprised if Citi has to merge with another bank to save themselves.

Don't trust anything they tell you. If they yank your chain any further, cancel your account and move on to another bank. There's plenty of fish in the sea.

You guys really struggle to get cash back from the credit card companies? In England its really not that hard. Theres a few specialist websites popped up that are helping people reclaim unfair charges and help sort out other legal problems with credit cards/banks etc for free. Community spirit and all that. Brits in need of help, check out http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/ for those in other countries, look around, sure there`ll be something similar, if not, read the UK website and start one yourself. Yes credit card companies and banks can be a pain, but legally the law is on your side. So long as you assert both yourself and your rights, they wiil eventually pay up and rectify problems, usually to the customers satisfaction.

I'm still not clear on why they should give you $150 credit.

You knew the sale was running, yet waited until the last minute.

I don't see how you're out any money. You weren't charged $150, so why do they owe it to you?

Yup it is a pain alright.
We can thank all the meth heads that perpetrate identity theft for the hassle.
I still say all meth heads should be shot on sight.

I don't really know how else to explain any clearer beyond what has already been typed, but....

If the charge had gone through I'd have the player and all would be well.

Since they botched my payment, if I wanted to get the same player I'd now have to pay $150 more to get it elsewhere (if I could find one).

As far as waiting until the last minute....the player had been out of stock for a couple days, then Sunday night it came back in stock, so I quickly placed the order. But my order didn't get cancelled because they were out of stock. It cancelled because my credit card payment didn't go through. And by the time I found that out they were out of stock.

"time and frustration including over an hour of my time today on the phone"

I think what Newc is trying to say is that you REALLY are out "zero" funds. Yes, you missed out on a purchase. Yes, you missed out on the gift card. But not one single penny left your pocket and yet you feel the credit card company owes you $150. What the credit card company owes you, if anything, is an apology for the way things were handled.

+1. If you were out something, I could see wanting to be made whole again. But you are out nothing. That's just the way it goes. I wouldn't waste any more time on this and just give it up. I highly doubt you get anything for this, not even an apology.
                            I'm angry because you're stupid
