  • Vass,
There has always been crime, there always will be. No real need to understand it, just need to know that it is.

If I had known he was in my house, it would have been on. I feel pretty secure in the thought that I could handle business if it came down to it.

You are right, if they want it bad enough, they will try.

I guess the key is to do what you can to not make it easy. Unless they are a Ninja, they can be detected enough so that you will wake up and can make the 911 call.

My bro in law is a deputy for King County and he pointed out that most B&E guys are more willing to bypass an alarmed house and move on to the next without an alarm.

No doubt, I'm sure they would. I would, if I were doing that kind of thing. But you are right, you have to keep your house secure and not inviting.

I left the window unlocked. Haven't done that since.

A secure house is just a smart thing all around.

And I must ad, this has been a pleasant conversation with you guys. Thanks for that. I enjoy when a controversial topic can be discussed without someone going idiot on it.

                • Bengal if there was a way to take guns away from everyone I would be all for it but they can't.

The link to wikipedia is not about stats, it's a summary of the massacre that happened in Canada that I alluded to in my post. I bet every Canadian on this board has heard of Marc Lepine and the Ecole Polytechnique murders so you don't have to doubt its veracity. It definitely happened.

I'm not pro-gun, I just don't think more gun control will make much difference. Gun-control is a way for politicians to make it look like they are doing something to prevent violence, and it may not be that effective. It's a bigger problem than guns.

That's cool. I probably should have clicked on the link before I made that statement. But I agree with what you have said.

                      joel,
It's all good man. No worries. We see it different, that's cool. It was a good conversation for a while! Can't hate that.

                        • All I'm saying is that it's easy to be on the side of the angels and say all guns should be banned but that is not realistic or practical. Also, a judge's job is to protect the individual from the tyranny of the majority. Some people do not understand or remember that.

If you want to try and and reduce violence then you are looking at a much bigger issue than controlling access to guns. It's a much bigger public policy debate as to the extent of control and influence the government exerts over the average guy's (and gal's) life. Of course everyone wants to feel secure, but what are you willing to give up to get ultimate security if that is even attainable?

Albeit most sadly the infrequent tragedy may be a cost of a free society.

Again, I agree that any form of gun control is not even remotely possible. I don't fool myself to believe it is.

I'm also not talking about violence as a whole, just gun related violence. Violence will always be part of the human race.

We've already given up waaaaaaaay to much for "the cost of freedom", IMHO. The Patriot Act makes me sick.

                              • It's easier for the gun control people to try and go after the legal guns. If they win, they can say they made a difference by getting all the guns, but they will really only succeed in stopping less than 1% of crimes committed with guns since that is how many of them are committed by people with legal guns.
