Was he opening up for Motley Crue? How does Mick Mars get into the conversation.

Or is he saying that Steve was playing an Yngwie/Mick Mars-type solo? How do you compare Mars to Yngwie?

    I still don't get it.

    Why don't you just say

Yngwie: One of the greatest guitarists
Mick Mars: Good cog in a great machine
    Steve Stevens: Pretty good guitarist
Ok, My brother, who doesn't play guitar, seemed to think there was no difference between the three. To me there is a huge difference, and I was trying to use an analogy to explain the difference.

I think every one here, whether you like him or not, would say Yngwie is one of the greatest ever, and the other two are
not in the same league, I love the crue, and like billy idols hits, but those guys in my opinion are not in the same league,

It's like when Rolling Stone does a great guitarist issue and has EVH and then John Mayer and the guy from Green Day

        Hum. I don't know.

I'd much rather listen to Steve Stevens anyday of the week over Yngwie.

I would say that Steve is better than Yngwie. Speed doesn't equal greatness in my book.

But I see what you are saying. The only guitarists your brother knows are Yngwie and Mick Mars.

I would use past and present NFL Quarterbacks myself.

        Yngwie: Steve McNair
        Mick Mars: Kurt Warner
        Steve Stevens: John Elway

        But that's just me.

OK, I admit my analogy was not that great, if you like Steve Stevens better, than you can compare him to the better QB
I only know the Billy Idol hits.

I'm listening to "White Wedding" right now, I don't know if Steve played on that, I do know that I used to crack people up with my Billy Idol sneer and punch!

Let me add descriptions since I just thought of them.

Yngwie: Steve McNair (Decent QB, one trick pony, got to the big show once but missed it by that much)
Mick Mars: Kurt Warner (Good QB with a ring but the question persists, was it him or the system?)
Steve Stevens: John Elway (Great QB, can carry the load by himself but much better with a good supporting team)

You really need to listen to more Billy Idol. Blue Highway off Rebel Yell had some great guitar. But shit, the song Rebel Yell had some smoking guitar going on.

But get Idols latest Devils Playground. Some kick ass rock and roll guitar on that album.

Steve had his own band back in the day called The Atomic Playboys that were pretty good. There was a sweet instrumental called Running Through The Sands Of Time or some kind of lame title like that. It was good.

Didn't he also play on Vince Neils first Solo CD? The one with You're Invited But Your Friend Can't Come? I seem to remember he played lead on that one as well.

Fuckin' great rock guitarist. I've always liked him.

Well, I know Yngwie is kind of a polarizing figure, but I don't know, I guess I'm not familier enough with Steve Stevens stuff, I mean I like that stuttering machine gun stuff in Rebel Yell, but really, does Steven Stevens belong with:

                    EVH,
                    Yngnwie
                    Vai
                    Gilbert

                    ????

or are you dudes just busting my balls for bringing up wrestling???haha!!!

Yes, Steve played on Vince's first album.

Check out the BLS Black Light Syndrome album (Bozzio/Levens/Stevens).

Steve's incredible and has done a lot of stuff.

Steve Stevens is fucking amazing guitarist and songwriter and he has one of the best live guitar tones ever.

I love Yngwie but Steve is much more versatile player and better writer.

Steve did some of the coolest rock guitar work I've heard on Vince Neil's debut album

also Steve did 2 albums with Terry Bozzio and Tony Levin.... two one of the most influental and unique musicians out there.... they wouldn't have played with Steve if he isn't that good. Awesome albums wich cover all kinds of stuff from rock to jazz fusion, from prog to latin

besides Steve has probably the best hair out of all the guitarists
