I still hold that most people, even here, would not be able to tell the difference very reliably in a blind test. Unfortunately I don't really have a good way to put you guys to the test. Maybe I'll think of something.

I'll give you some real world numbers you thief!!

Avrils song girlfriend has been LEGALLY downloaded 7.3 million times. This will generate her $584,000 if she has the standard royalty rates which is .8 cents a download. Downloads fall under the new tech clauses in most artists contracts. Thats less than a cent a song. Now if you and 7 million others steal her song then you just cost her over a half a million dollars. If someone were costing you that amount of money youd be pissed and you know it!! I'd be after all of you thieves if I was an artist or a label. That money adds up. This is why the artists have to charge outrageous prices for concerts. They have to earn a living somehow.

Well for one I wouldn't steal from Avril Lavigne, she's not worth it.

But you have some obvious problems with your logic:

1 - You have no idea how many people stole the song, you only know how many didn't steal it.

2 - Even if you did have a number for (1), you have not shown that even a single one of those people would have paid for the song were stealing it more difficult.

No, it's not stealing. When I'm at work it's somewhat of an "on call" thing. I work when it's requried. When it's not I watch TV and surf the internet.

Your arguement is LAME. You assume they woudnt buy it. I believe they would buy it if it was harder to steal it.

Also I dont need your LAME test. I can easily put in a CD and give it a listen. I can also take the IPOD and play it thru the same system. I can tell the difference thats why I prefer the cds.

Bottom line is this. You thieves will eventually lose as will the rest of us. We will lose personal freedoms that we now have because the RIAA will do whatever they have to to stop this stealing. They have the money and the political influence to create more stricter laws. They will accomplish this in time. Its called big brother. They will be watching, its only a matter of time.

It's impossible to accurately determine whether the decline in sales has anything to do with filesharing. You expect people to willingly self-report criminal behavior? Beyond that you expect them to be able to accurately determine what actions they would take were stealing more difficult? Or, even better, you think some coalition of researchers can reliably attribute the decline in sales to any one simple activity? If the last one were the case, the record companies would be fighting tooth and nail with everyone rather than targetting a few people and settling out of court just to get themselves in the news.

I do believe that filesharing will fuck it up for all of us, I think I already said that. But sooner or later it will be impossible to import a CD into your computer or there will be some file attached to the mp3 that won't allow it to be transfered into an iPod. Some kinda shit like that will happen.

Then we ALL will be pissed.
