I said maybe we were alike. There is one way we are different. If I have a problem with what someone has said and want to challenge them on it, I challenge them on it. I don't go off calling names and making sweeping generalizations about someones character. I hold people to how they present themselves on this forum. I challenge what they say. I have no clue if someone is honest, trustworthy, beats his wife, steals cars, killed his mother, whatever. I don't make those generalizations. I'm not really comfortable with that.

From the posts I've read that Endrik has posted, I can tell he knows what he's talking about.

Not because we agree on everything but because I can tell by what he writes that he's been there and done that. You can tell that stuff from how someone communicates.

I have 6 files that are 30 megs each for the test if anyone has web space/bandwidth they would be willing to donate, PM me and we'll go from there.

I don't think DRM is a component of the CD, more about the program you use to rip the CD.

I put every CD I owned into my hard drive, foolishly choosing .WMA "Protected" format thinking I was doing the right thing and it would save me heartache down the road.

But when I bought my iPod, I found that there was no way to listen to the hundreds of CDs I had actually bought and paid for because the iPod will not recognize protected .WMA files. From what I have been reading, even Microsoft's own Zune player won't recognize them.

So if I want to listen to the music I paid for, it's a tedious process of creating a CD, then ripping the CD back into iTunes and if you want to talk about sound quality loss there you have it.

By contrast, the handful of files that I had acquired over the years from Kazaa and Limewire play on my iPod with no problem.

Oh they already have that. It's called DRM (Digital Rights Management). They can decide whether or not you can play the file on another device. iTunes won't let their files be played on anything but iTunes or an iPod. You have to burn the files to a CD first and then rip them back onto the computer to get the DRM off.

Slowly more companies are realizing that they can charge a bit more for DRM-free tracks and get happier customers too.

Really? I have never heard of this. Course I have not gone looking for it.

How does it work? It just won't allow it to be played period? Or does it screw up the playback?

How do you tell if a CD has this program in it?

I've always been interested in attempts of the record company to derail filesharing. We've been hearing about it for years and years.

But I've never had a problem. Only thing I do is put them in iTunes, on my iPod, and maybe burn a copy for the car. But thats about it.
