Once again, you take your dislike for me and dilute this thread with it.

Don't like me? I don't give a fuck. But lets leave this arguement, or debate, for what it is.

Want me to start a "Bash Bengal" thread for all you whinners who got your feelings hurt by something I said? I may go that route and you can go after me there.

But this is a valid debate. Mixing in personal feelings is just stupid.

My thought is if they were not going to pay for it, they shouldn't have it.

I'd love a Mercedes. But I'm not going to pay for one. Should I get one?

I know it's like mixing apples and oranges because a car is a tangable thing and a movie/cd is not. I get that point.

But just saying "I wasn't going to buy it anyway" just doesn't make sense to me.

If that's the case, you don't really have a right to have it.

I agree somewhat. If I could return PS3 games, I'd buy more too. Same with albums and DVD's. I can't tell you how many movies I've bought that I thought sucked. Oh well, what can you do?

Who thinks it sucks does matter. Should the store just take everyone at their word? "This CD sucks, I want my money back!". Who's fault is it that the CD sucked? The store? The record company or the band?

Why should you have the right to get your money back when you didn't do your homework? (Finding out if the band sucks or not)

And who's to say it's really good but you riped it into your iTunes before returning it? That's the big question.
Well, yes, they should take the customer at their word. Retailers take the customer at their word on returned products every day.

Until File Sharing came around, there was very little homework you could do short of hearing a single on the raido, or getting a copy from a friend.

And since people are getting their panties in a wad, I'll tell you where I have been in this subject.

I had limewire for 2 days. I downloaded 45 songs. It felt wrong to me so I deleted the program with all songs in it.

So I have done it. But I didn't burn the songs or anything. It felt wrong to me so I don't do it.

There. Happy now? I am not without fault here. But maybe I am the only one who thought about what I was doing in a global sense instead of a personal one.

Feelings hurt? You have quite the high opinion of yourself.

Regardless of how "weak" you think the youtube/cover song point was, if you've ever performed a copywrited work in front of another person or watched a youtube vid that wasn't officially released by the artist, you are technically breaking the law.

As for not liking you, I don't even know you... I just find it funny that 90% of the time I see a post from you in a thread you are trying to argue with somebody.

Oh it's coming Mark. I get sick of people who don't like me taking after me in valid threads like this and the Viv one.

                Fuckin' happens all the time.

So we need that thread. It's coming.

I'm not stealing anything by waching a fan video of Slayer playing in Wisconsin.

I don't intentionally try to start an arguement with anyone. Well, with Cyg I do but that's another thread.

But I will argue points with someone. I don't give passes like many here do. If you say something I feel you need to be challenged on, I'll do it. I have no problem with that.

If that's "starting an argument", so be it. I want you guys to show your work. That's all. No different than your Jr. High math teacher.

                      Steve,
I see your point on the return policy too. You are right, they take their customers word for it.

                      I see that point.

Re: the return policy- strawman. You know when you buy a CD or a piece of software what the rules are. If you don't like em, you don't buy the CD, that simple.

You don't get to unilaterally re-state the terms of the contract on your own behalf because you screwed up and have buyer's remorse.

If that stance digs into CD sales, so be it. The artists & labels have an option then, and that's to adjust the way they approach the market to meet a demand. Or they don't, they don't sell any more CD's, and they die. The market at work.

It may or may not also be true that downloads give a band "exposure" that pays dividends. Again, it is not up to you, unilaterally, to decide that you have been annointed the band's business manager have decided henceforth to help spread the world of their awesomeness.

Give me a break. I know I've heard more justifications for thievery, but I can't remember when.

At least Troy is honestly sitting here and saying, "I'm stealing and I don't give a hot shit". Some of you are trying to turn theft into some sort of virtue.

                            • I'm back. And yes, in discussions I often enjoy arguing from the viewpoint of a relativist. It's fun that way because it's nearly impossible to be proven wrong.

But really, who are any of us to decide what is right and wrong for the rest of the world?

Who are any of us to even declare that absolute truth even exists?

Filesharing is clearly illegal. I don't think anyone is arguing against that point. But saying filesharing is right or wrong - I would LOVE to see a proof either way from someone here.

Hell forget right and wrong. Let's see one of you prove that filesharing has caused more than 1 artist to lose money.
