I like how Ozzy stated it one time. The first album was recorded in a couple weeks on an 8 track and sounded great. After that they had to rent out some major castle or something because the stones recorded there or something and it sucked.

Yep Matt..music straight from the heart will convey great!
Look at the production and money put into that shell of a man now and listen to that crap he's been puttin' out. Ozzy wouldn't even resemble metal if it wasn't for Zakk in that last 14 years. I remember Zakk saying I have to keep reminding Ozzy who he is when when he's writing. I don't think Ozzy listen to that advice for quite some time...he's done.
You can almost see the strings that are holding him up.."Sharon..Bubbles..Bubbles..I'm the prince of darkness I don't want any fucking bubbles". I betcha even that line was scripted by Mrs Ozzy.
That show was the worse thing he ever did..Maybe just one show..a peek. Now we all know he's just a pickled, feeble old man..on a short leash..yeeshh.."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Another thing I don't think I've seen mentioned...
Having your album spread over the internet for free is more than your record company could spend on PR for all the artists it has.
I could list 100 bands that I purchased CDs of that I would have never heard of before. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

one of the worst things lately....
poser motherfuckers who can't play any instrument and have barely heard AC/DC are writing "Rockstar" behind Occupation on their myspace profiles"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Metallica or anyone else on this board cannot speak for the masses. Some bands would never even be heard of without fileshare. Some bands have nothing good to say about the recording industry. Google Tom Scholz and Celtic Frost.
We all sin and break the law everyday. When we speed we are committing crime. We even buy fuzzbusters to help us break the law. If crime is crime then we should enable the death penalty for anyone 10 mph over the speed limit.
This thread is going no where guys, we are just kicking a dead horse that has been kicked so many times.

Here's a fun challenge. Have someone from Human Resources management post that they encourage Internet surfing during work hours. I'm anxious to see the results."POOP"

I'm going to assume this was directed at me since I made the comment that it's no problem to surf the net at work.
I understand that it's a problem at some IT places and whatnot. Places where you actully work 8 hours a day.
I don't "work" 8 hours a day. I'm AT work 8 hours a day but out of those 8 hours I only really work 2 to 2 1/2 hours of that 8 hours. Just the nature of the business I'm in.
As far as surfing the net, the computer guy knows exactly how many hours the employees surf the net at work. He even came up to me a while ago and asked what this JCF thing was. He wanted to know what it stood for. I told him and he said "cool" and walked away.
When I first got this job once my boss would walk into my office I'd try to minimize the screen and show I was not surfing the net. He responded that it's not a big thing to surf the net, as long as you are not looking up "questionable" material. Material that won't offend someone. Other than that, he said you have to do something to pass the time.
As for getting a HR person to create an account and post here just to prove a point? I highly doubt the HR lady at my work would do that. Sorry.Last edited by Bengal; 07-08-2008, 08:25 AM.I'm angry because you're stupid

Well, here's the verdict for this time around...
The record label was notified of the existence of this stuff, and they as well as we immediately filed a complaint with the company hosting the files, and we just got this email back:
"Hello,
thank you for informing us about this violation of our Terms of Use. We have removed the files you have specified from our servers.
Furthermore we have added the files to our blacklist, so we will not accept an
upload of the same files anymore.
Thank you for your cooperation."
I guess we dodged this one for now - I know the album's going to be out there on fileshare, I just want to be on equal ground, where people can actually buy it legit as well as download it. I guess it's all going to be about building expectations for the release as far as we're concerned.
Thanks for all of Your support and good ideas. I didn't mean for this to turn into a general ethics thread, but such are the ways of the Internet. Thanks for sharing this with me!- Andi Kravljaca -

Gryphon,
Good news. Glad it worked out good for you guys!
As for the ethics debate. You posted a thread about filesharing, this turned into an ethics debate about filesharing. Not too big of a strech to see how that happened.I'm angry because you're stupid

One thing to note is most of the freely available stuff is only ripped at 128kbps, so the quality is definitely lacking as opposed to if it were 320kbps. The Cheap Charlies of the world wouldn't care, but I would think that most folks would not be satisfied with that quality. You sir, can go you fuck yourself and don't let the door hit you in the vagina on the way out.
You're such a pretencious, phony, boring, transparent, self righteous worthless fuck..You are amusing as a genital wart!

Well, i`m with TheTroy on this one, i`ve downloaded thousands of songs/films/programs etc over various fileshare media, torrents, ftp, nntp etc. Is it illegal, immoral and wrong, probably, do i give a shit, not really. I buy what i like but only after downloading and listening first.
Copyright breaches have been with us forever, and will continue to be so in the future, doesn`t make it right, but there it is. Keeping recorded tv shows longer than the legally specified time, lending cd`s and books to friends are all copyright breaches. Shit, some even have disclaimers that your not allowed to sell copyright material you`ve already purchased yourself, wtf is that all about.
We always hear how piracy is killing the music industry, bullshit, its thriving. The record companies are making bigger and bigger profits each year so how is it being harmed? Greed is what its all about, both from the record companies and their fat cat profits, and people like myself and troy. Yer, we`re just as greedy as the record companies but they still make their money and some. IMO, theres only one way to fight piracy, make the material so cheap that its just not worth ripping it. Companies blame the price of material on piracy, and say `it has to be this expensive to cover the cost of all you thieving fuckers that download it for free` Bullshit say i. If they made the cost of each program/film/album £1 who`d bother downloading it? we`d all have originals and they`d sell billions of copies easily making massive profits. If we all stopped pirating today would prices come down, of course not, they`d still keep going up and the record companies would find another excuse to justify their prices, the price of beer/drugs for the artist going up etc. Will they ever bring prices down? not gonna happen is it lol.
Not trying to justify what i do, i do it, i`m happy doing it and feel no guilt doing it. Will i continue doing it? sure i will. If i get kicked off the net then fine, theres other ways and means. I re-iterate, i buy what i like, if its good and worth the money then i don`t mind shelling out, have easily over a thousand original recordings so its not lilke i WON`T stump up the cash, i just don`t feel OBLIGED to do so.
Big up to Troy for his posts, and to Bengal for putting some excellent arguments across.Last edited by wibble; 07-08-2008, 10:28 AM.
