  • Anybody else play Keyboard/Synth?

? I'm just getting into playing synth. Selling my ESP right now to afford one. Who else plays? What are some good learning techniques?

I try but I really suck. I have no independence between my hands (or feet).

no, don't watch any of those key wiz wids at first.

get the basic piano ABC and a metronome/drum machine (if you don't have it on your synth) and start playing the most basic stuff

start slowly and get your timing PERFECT

then figure out how to play different chords without moving hands all over the place... remember all the different voicings

your hands should ALLWAYS be relaxed.... if they are getting tense... stop the playing... and start over

all this helps you become very comfortable on the instrument... nothing worse than a unsecure dude with a bad timing wanking on the keys

and do the world a favour... don't pollute us with cheesy strings sounds and such... use sound banks such as "piano" "rhodes" "el piano" "wurlitzer" "clavi" etc.

Harpsichord! It sounds so sweet when used correctly (ex: Jens Johanssen).

I have a hard enough time playing guitar.

I know one chord and I can master it. Let me tell you, I play a mean G. I'm in the market for a synth right now and have a Korg Poly800 setup to buy soon.
