  • Doing a live radio interview in four hours...

    ...And I'm really nervous!

Those of You who saw my YouTube thread earlier know how afraid I am of making an idiot of myself in front of the world (who isn't, right?)

Well in four hours time, at 6:15 PM Zulu I'll be doing a live interview with this guy Steve Price over at ARfm (http://www.arfm.co.uk), talking about the album and everything.

I just did my first interview ever a few days ago, but that was for a magazine - this is live radio.

Has anyone here done something like this before? Any tips for a virgin?

Wish me luck and keep Your fingers crossed I don't leave a brown stain on the carpet

Even if you were to make some embarrassing mistake, it would get you good press. Good luck mate.

Remove you pants just before you sit down.
If they ask you why, tell them you have to air out a rash, and ask them if they want to see your doctor's note.
Pretend like nothing is wrong, and proceed with the interview.
This will effectively throw them off balance, and give you the upper hand.

The best thing abour radio interviews is that the audience won't be able to see you. You don't have to worry about your appearance, just what you say. Best of luck!

Yeah, focus on the conversation, not the situation.

            And speak up!

A few years ago my band did a local radio interview (payola ) and they played a few of our songs. The drummer and bassist were hiding in the corner but me and the singer were on the mics. Unfortunately I didn't quite have the hang of speaking directly into the mic, so I was a bit low, but I was focusing more on the conversation than the situation, which did make it more comfortable.

Then again if you're in a band and you're self-conscious.....

Phew. The deed has been done.

A great promotional experience, they played two songs from the album and an interview. The presenter was real nice. I feel a little winded, but it was pleasurable once done.

Did you have someone recording it for you? I left a VCR recording for 8 hours (since it was going to be a while between getting the band together and to the station) with my stereo feeding into it and dumped it to the PC when I got back.

Yeah, we were recording it but it crapped out just before saying "goodbye", so it's a no go for putting it online in any official sense - but we emailed the radio station and we're going to get a copy of the show this week, and put up on the website. Plus maybe a transcript.

Still, it really feels weird hearing Your song on the radio... Especially when You hear them monitoring it in the studio, I mean there it is, actual proof that other people listen to Your music *lol*
